Faster loading when you install onto a 360 and not faster when installed on PS3? Have you played PS3 games that have optional installs? Valkyria Chronicles is one that comes to mind and Unreal Tournament III as well. Have you played PS3 at all? No, I guess you haven't.

Seriously, yesterday I read a thread about fanboy journalism and one point the author made was that people take any news about PS3 and try to turn it into something negative. Now we look at this, game installs, only been happening since Nov. 2006 but people still find the need to bring it up for every damn game.

Game installs are a PS3-exclusive. So what do you want to hear? That this is a great innovation made by Sony? There is a difference between saying something is bad and being a fanboy. Mandatory installs are a bad thing and when a console needs them, it is just fair to criticize. This has nothing to do with being a fanboy. MS was criticized for the RRoD and they deserved it.

Now what if we were to post RRoD thread everytime that came up? I know, we would be told to put it in the official RRoD thread or we get warned and/or banned.

There ARE RRoD threads all over the place.

You're working 60 hours a week... Well you have dinner, sleep time, pooptime, smoke session, INTERNET AND BROWSING in this site for an hour(LOL) or whatever some god forbidden whatever you're doing to take your installation.

Or maybe after work you only play games? That's LOSER sad to say, so I hope not...

but then again you don't have one LOL

Indeed we all know that once the data has been installed it cannot be deleted, we also all know that a HDD for the PS3 is overpriced like the 360 ones..........

Speak for yourself please. I'm working 60 hours a week or so, so when I want to relax and play a game I don't really feel like waiting for 20 minutes. I'm sure I'm not the only one with a job that likes playing games...

You're trying to defend stuff that's really not worth defending.   

unless you actually go out of your way to delete the installed data everytime you finish playing a game for the night, there should be no reason to wait 20 minutes everytime. most installations don't even take that long. 10 minutes is the average. the installation is a one off that can be deleted anytime, and does not affect your game saves in any way.

i'm not trying to defend the installs, but people are really making it worse than it seems. the ps3 is in its third year, surely if installs were a major problem, we would have heard a lot of voices by now?

 

I never said installs are a big disaster or anything, I'm just pointing at the ridiculous excuses that are made to defend it, while it's not something anyone should defend (except PC gamers, because they see the benefits of consolegaming vanishing ever other day).

Looks like 5 gigs to me. And pffftttt... I have the option to upgrade to what ever available 2.5" SATA drive I want.... I'll be upgrading my 80GB to a 320GB+ soon. Even though with everything I have on it right now I still have 15GB+ free...

[Look at my game collection. That doesn't even account for all of my videos and music.]

Well 5GB is nothing for any PS3 owner. Sony provided us with alot of HDD space since the beginning ..and good thing we can always upgrade our HDD incase we like to go nuts and just put a bunch of stuff in our PS3. =)

  • Take up to 25minutes (DMC), though DMC is an extreme case, and most installs fall below 10 minutes

So your saying PS3 installs have absolutely no advantages? Alright, gotcha. Both have advantages, plus the fact you are comparing 360 optional installs means you need to include ALL forms of PS3 installs, mandatory or optional.

Well then that is where we disagree, I have Fable II as well and it took over 10mins, it is was my first install and I went as far as to time it. Many others on this site will agree that the average 360 install is around ~10mins.

Oblivion does take up a lot. I have the regular edition and it takes 4.4GB. -.-

It isn't about what we want to hear, it is about what we are tired of hearing. Almost all PS3 games have installs, we have known this since November 17th, 2006. What exactly has this thread added that we do not know? First this thread was Yakuza needing 5GB, then it was a chart by you about how 360 installs = advantage for gamers and PS3 installs = only cons for gamers.

Yes but the 360 communities almost always asks for them to be put into the official RRoD thread instead. Same situation here. We going to have a thread for SFIV as well if it needs an install? Maybe Heavy Rain? Or even Ratchet and Clank 2?

Hmmm, did you read the same thing I am? The attempt to downplay PS3 installs while praising 360 installs was pathetic, I never said you.

 

 

 

I am done with this thread. Gaming journalist yesterday made a point and today I am not surprised to see it was truth.

Just like how people act like it is the PS3's and/or Blu-rays fault the games need installs. Why are there games that do not need them then? Obviously the PS3 can allow for no installs and still have the game(s) run perfectly fine. If you have such an issue with it, take it up with the developers.
