Worse graphics certainly, but better controls is opinion (Not a fact)

Have you played both RE4:Wii and the RE5 demo on the 360 as I have?

Oh wait, you don't even have a Wii. Looks like my opinion trumps yours even if it's just an opinion.

I will say that the Japan VG chart number appears to be pulled straight from Media Create... which is fairly accurate. Japan's $2M TV campaign for the title in just that territory (e.g. better marketing) did not move the bar. What makes you think that a similar effort in other territories would have had a different effect? We could have spent more, sold more, but due to that increased spending generated less profit (more loss). Look at publicly listed publisher financials. Industry standard is a variable marketing spend of between 9-12% of forecasted gross sales. We spend at similar levels (and sometimes above that) on every title we do, in every territory we operate in, including on Z&W. Interesting anyway. |
I also find the numbers he gave us as being very interesting. Marketing is 9-12% of forecasted sales, eh? That's handy to know.

He's only a marketing suit. Being a VP doesn't always mean you have power over everything, just that you're a higher-up in a certain division. Heck, look at it this way: Reggie is the President of NoA, but even then he still has only limited power within Nintendo proper.
From the title, you would think that Christian Svensson would know what he is talking about.
However, if I recall from experience, he tends to speak a bit out of his elements -- making statements which don't always add up. And he is not, shall we say, seemingly the biggest supporter of the Wii.
In a quick search, I can only find initial sales for the title: Nov. 2007 NPD of 35k and Oct. 2007 first week Japan from Famitsu of 10K.
The question is this. Does anyone know if Capcom lists software sales in its reports. That should answer all questions.

"Remember, we ship to retail. It then sits on shelves until you buy it. We don't sell MORE to retail unless something is selling well enough to have that retailer believe that keeping that SKU active (reordering) is a better use of their limited shelf space than bringing in something new to replace it as it sells down.
So sure, we were selling through to consumers during the holiday, but not necessarily shipping MORE to retail during that period (which is how we get paid/rack up more units)."
no offence, but from all this stuff that capcoms been saying, they seem like dicks now.
rather, sell outs. definitely sell outs, and i hate that.
thats the only reason RE turned into a shooter, they wanted money.
theyre still giving me great Ace Attorney games, so I'm okay with that, but it's just a little annoying. i don't know why i'm supporting dead rising:ctyd

No I don't have a Wii. But I have played RE4 on PS2 and Re4 Wii edition (Played it at a mates). Dont care if you choose to believe that, But as far as im concerned my opinion is equal to yours.
So he says things like this:
"The games business is filled with titles that people love that simply did not make money: Viewtiful Joe. Okami. Zack and Wiki."
Then when shown facts he turns around and says this:
"Okami has been moderately successful... due in no small part to the quality of the game and the fact that it was cost effectively produced with managed scope."
Edit: I'm still not surprised with Z&W numbers if they're only at 300k. No advertizing ever and barely any stock at stores so what do you expect?

Hang on a minute, they did a $2 million TV advertising campaign in Japan but nothing here or in Europe and he's ripping on the sales?
He claimed if they did a comparable campaign in the US it wouldn't do any good. $2 million / $20 (publisher revenue per copy) = 100,000.
So Capcom thinks that they wouldn't have sold 100,000 more units if they did a TV campaign?
Simply pathetic.

They're quotes from two different people.
I'd imagine the first Okami reference is to the PS2 versions flop, and the second to the Wii version when compared to the sales of the PS2 version and port costs. Chances are the sales from both versions still leave their total investment from Okami in the red though.
