I don't even think its like that. Zelda is one of those series you can look at and justify why we sit here every day discussing games. Why I can justify spending time writing things about gaming. Why many gamers have become core gamers after playing it. You see it's not just about liking it. Even core gamers that simply don't agree with Zelda can look at the franchise and say, " Yea that is what core gaming is about. That is the epitome of this entertainment industry." You don't even have to like it but it's one of those franchises that gives that off to the core gamers and ultimately the media. I don't think there are too many other franchises that do that but Zelda does and that's why I respect it on both fronts: for being a represenative of the gaming world and being one of the greatest franchises ever created.

Er, I just edited his first post a little bit and reposted it as a joke. Thank you for your insight on one of gamings most beloved series though. :3

Are you talking to me or the op?
I can't say if the series is overrated or not, I can only say that the only Zelda I've played (Ocarina of Time) for me is definitely overrated. Good game, sure, can't deny that, but I haven't found anything memorable of it, let alone anything to consider it one of the best games ever.
I dunno, I can't say many bad things about the game, as there aren't many, the problem is that I can't say many good things either (except that the boomerang was awesome). It's just a good game for me

| Tremble said: I have to say it! I really don't understand what's so great about this serie. Yeah it's pleasant, but there is nothing AMAZING with zelda games. It's just one of those average action/adventure game. I played zelda 64 a long long time game and yes, I had a good time, but nothing really amazing. Then, when I had a gamecube, I bought the windwaker, and I didn't even finish it. I think that zelda is loved because it's one of the nintendo "all time" serie and the only action/adventure serie on the console. If you own a nintendo system, you HAVE to love zelda/mario/metroid etc etc etc |
There are many reasons why the Zelda franchise is the best. But the paramount reason is that it's at the core a very polished design. No other series (except maybe mario) features such well crafted level designs, puzzle designs, and control designs. It's the culmination of Miyamoto's particular school of game theory, and his is the best.
It's also the same reason why games that simply try to emulate the Zelda design turn out to be greatly loved in their own right, such as Beyond Good and Evil. They are just really good combinations of game mechanics.
Now if you enjoy other genres like FPS, racing, etc then a Zelda game may go right over your head.
