Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Is Microsoft afraid of Killzone 2?? By Megaman2!!

KZ2 will shift well to existing ps3 users. I can't see it moving more than 100k consoles though.

Microsoft should be very scared, since Killzone 2 appears to have gameplay which lives up to it's astounding visuals, and cannot be done on the 360.

That's kind of an awkward sentence.  You probably mean to say the graphics couldn't be done on 360, but the way the sentence is worded implies that the gameplay couldn't be done, and that it has nice visuals as an afterthought.

@topic Absolutely MS's moves are intentional, but that doesn't mean that they're scared, just opportunistic.

Anyone remember when LittleBigPlanet got a metacritic score of 95? Remember when MGS4, a much larger and devoted franchise got a metacritic score of 94?

Remember how many they managed to sell for 2008?

MGS4 - 3.75 million (released around the same time of the year as Killzone 2 will)
LBP - 1.5 million

LBP had a higher metacritic score, lots of online hype, but since it was a new franchise and had poor advertising, no where near as many people bought it as was deserved.

Killzone 2 is not a strong franchise. Hardly anyone you come in contact with outside of internet forums are overly hyped about it. All my PS3 friends know about it, and many will get it, but none of them are "OMG THE ULTIMATE GAME EVAR!" Even less likely is that you will run into someone who has actually played the first one.

If Sony doesn't start advertising A LOT and ASAP, this game will get lackluster Resistance 2/LBP sales, in fact I predict it will for these main reasons. The game itself will be great, and get awesome review scores, but if Sony doesn't increase the hype outside of forums and start posting ads everywhere then this game will not be a "sales giant" like Call of Duty, Halo 3, and Gears of War 1/2 on the 360 or MGS4 and GTAIV on the PS3.

I predict week one sales of 900k, and 2009 yearly sales of 2.2 million. That's without any good advertising.
With good advertising (for once) I would predict week one sales of 1.5 million and 2009 yearly sales of 3.5 million (an initial boost of 600k and then another 700k throughout the year). I really doubt this game will sell as much as MGS4 or GTAIV on the PS3.

I do not know why I respond to stuff like this, but here goes. M$ aint SKEERED! LOL

It seems that Microsoft is terrified by all the hype surrounding Killzone 2 and try in every way to oppose his cards marred the best output.

First round

When a month ago during an episode of G4TV, sprang the first rumours on a release date for the long awaited shooter, microsoft anounced just after a few hours the awaited date of DLC exclusive Gta4 and surprisingly for the same date 17 February 2009.

Second round

On December 4 however Sony officially announced that the release date for Kilzone 2 will be February 27, Microsoft is responding three days later postponing Halo wars (expected March 3) at 26 February 2009 again.

Third round

Sony is pressing an agreement with Gamestop to give a demo at the source of the Pre Killzone in U.S. territory. The demo will be made available via a download code that will be sent February 3 via email. Sony January 6 states that, for the European market, the demo of Killzone will be released in the traditional way and presumably a few days later (February 5 is Thursday, the day for traditional updates PSN).

They spend only 48 hours and that's Microsoft's response. During the keynote of the CES (Consumer Electronic Show, not as an audience of specialists in the gaming ... but does the media), it confirms the date of release of Halo Wars and announced that February 5 will be released playable demo.

Coincidences? Nnnaaaaaah.

Microsoft should be very scared, since Killzone 2 appears to have gameplay which lives up to it's astounding visuals, and cannot be done on the 360.

Best console visuals without a sweat, promising gameplay, 32-player online, promised DLC, no install, and massive hype. I bet even Nintendo got a chill down their spine.

Killzone 2 will be the official mark of a tide changed in Sony's favor. Simply buying exclusive content will not be enough in 2009.

The reviewers seem to echo my opinion this is what they said:

"To put it short, this game makes "Gears of War 2" look like a high school attempt at gaming and that is a HUGE compliment!"

MEgamers

"When compared to all other console titles - while on PC Crysis remains only true competitor regarding graphics - Killzone 2 takes every of it's moment to justify it is the first true and pure Next-Gen title in every mean imaginable."

Your theory and post is a good one and I suspect you are on to something, but you could have left out the red part - first, you're refering to just two early reviews, and second, Middle Eastern Gamers ain't a serious review site, they review games like fanboys do.
(I'm amazed they are counted in Metacritic's average score, but I don't think Gamerankings counts ME Gamers)

The first Killzone sucked which means that even if its good it already has that stigma of being a sucky game. No hype will help thanks to all the hype from the first one. Your thread fails

First of all your post fails if anything. Coming from a non fanboy opinion this is actually a really good thread. The first Killzone wasn't a sucky game, it was good, just not great and still managed to sell around 2mil WW. So the fact that this game is getting stellar reviews, anyone who played the beta online is praising the multiplayer and that was just a beta version, and if you look at how an overhyped piece of crap like Halo 3 managed to sell like it did then this game due to marketing (which we will see a marketing blitz for Killzone 2 this coming month) then this game will definately sell.

Once you call halo 3 an overhyped piece of crap your a fanboy /discussion

So your telling me that the campaign didn't dissapoint you? Yes , as I've stated many times, the multiplayer is great, no question about that but the perfect scores it was recieving was a complete joke.

P.S if Killzone 2 ends up being just great graphics and crap gameplay I'll rant about that also, does that stil make me a fanboy still :P

Halo3 is not a piece of crap... you may not like it... but it cannot be described as a piece of crap by anyone who is a non biased non fanboy gamer.

I dont like many games... but that doesnt make them a piece of crap.. it means they arent to my taste...

Exactly I am giving my opinion of the game. I am completely non biased as I own a 360 and love the shooter genre. I'm stating that the campaign was crap and I'm sure most people will agree with that. It was sub par compared to the first two games in the series in my view. I'm not a fanboy who overhypes it and says its a great game because it's the "cool" thing to do.

" Rebellion Against Tyrants Is Obedience To God"

^ For me it was the other way around - Halo 3 campaign was good but multiplayer is boring.

(but then I compare multiplayer to the greatness of multiplayer shooters on PC)

I'm sick of this Killzone 2 hype. First off, the game looks great, however, I agree with the poster that said it will have to deal with the fact that the first one was a sub-par title. I have spoken to a lot of gamers (mainly friends of mine) who put Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5 above Killzone 2, I'm not saying that is a national or worldwide trend. As for Nintendo getting a chill down there spine, Dead Rising chop til you drop releases the same week as KZ2. Don't thnik game starved Wii owners won't pick that up.

Will I purchase Killzone 2? Yes, but not at release. I have games higher on my list right now then KZ2.
