kunaixhaku said: if any company has a chance at getting near to wii its the ps3. There are a lot of famous games on the ps2 which are still waiting to be made onto the ps3 which will attract many fans of those games to purchase a ps3. For now they are milking the ps2 but sooner or later a backwards compatibility ps3 will come and those japanese ps2 users will come swarming in to buy 1. japan has yet to be awakened. It seems like they got struck by a virus or something. |
Ehm, no.
* According to NPD 70% of US Wii owners owned a PS2. Brand loyalty is only present in a small group of hardcore fans.
* There's only one real system seller left for Sony: GT5 (In Japan also FFXIII, but really: don't expect it to sell more than 700,000 consoles, which is very good, but will hardly impact the worldwide marketshare)
* Already around 90 million current gen consoles have been sold. Sure that's a lot of potential owners, but the later the purchase, the less core - and therefore less brand loyal these customers will be. And since Wii is the hottest system it's very likely that the later a PS2 owner switches systems the higher the percentage for a Wii purchase will be.
*Japan is a very bad example since most series in the PS2's sales top 20 have already seen a sequel on PS3, but hardly did anything. They're not struck by a virus, they just don't care about PS3 (nor about 360 and not even that much about Wii).
* Consumer sales doesn't work the way you describe it. No product simply excists for a couple of years before it gets a massive boost. You understand that for the PS3 to come close to Wii it will have to sell MASSIVELY more than the record breaking Wii, which means start selling much more than the PS2 did with less exclusive software and a higher price. I hope you understand that's not going to happen.
Qly said: Nah.. i don't see it happening, PS3 is the N64 of this gen, sure, it'll have some great games... Ps3 owners, did you like little big planet and MGS4? enjoy your very own legend of zelda and banjo kazooie, more will come, but it just won't catch up (that's how i think it'll be, i wish i'm wrong since i really love some of sony's IPs) |
Our Banjo-Kazooie is Ratchet and Clank, but what's our Legend of Zelda? Saying MGS4 is LoZ is pushing it just a tiny bit...
Also, saying LBP is Banjo is pushing it.
Hmmmm I can definitely see the Ps3 catching up to the 360 this year ESPECIALLY with a price cut...this is mainly due to many speculations I have that the 360 has reached its limit(Graphically) where as the Ps3 has yet to be tapped into...leading me to believe the 360's days are numbered and they are going to have to bring out another system soon...as for the Wii I still dont consider that system a NEXT GEN machine...It has an innovative controller but I feel that with its outdated graphics and its ridiculous mini game bundles that are the "craze" for some reason and its non-appeal to us "hardcore" gamers its not a real next gen console...thats my opinion this Next Gen war to me is between Ps3 and Xbox 360...Il keep the Wii back last Gen with the Ps2...also Wii sales might slow down due to the lack of 3rd party support for the system...if you look at the charts all games that are selling well on the Wii are NINTENDO 1st party titles...3rd party games sell way better on the 360 and Ps3...

The guy is not serious Fishy, I think he was just trying to push you
Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Umm...I think he actually is serious.. most of his posts are like the ones in this thread.

Don't worry, a few months on this forum and you won't make mistakes like this post again (either because you've learned or banned). But man, did you manage to get a lot wrong in just a single post.
1) NEXT gen is not here yet. We have the current gen.
2) What you think belongs to this gen is completely irrelevant. Generations are based on time, not on capacity of the systems. Wii is current gen, together with 360 and PS3 and therefore competes for roughly the same customers and 3rd party investments. And oh yeah: the Wii is winning big time.
3) If you seriously consider Wii in the PS2 gen then you must accept the fact that gaming is in an incredible decline.
4) According to NPD the Wii sold MORE 3RD PARTY GAMES than 360 or PS3 in November and December. That the best selling games are by Nintendo doesn't mean a thing. It's sales companies care about, not raking on a list.
5) MORE 3rd party Wii games are coming, not less. Which is obvious, since Wii is winning the console war.
6) For years now people are claiming PS3 is massively stronger than 360, however we haven't really seen the evidence, often the contrary, of this. Maybe some 1st party games look mildly better than 360 ones, but the difference you suggest is ridiculous.
@BengaBenga
Actually I was not wrong at all...if you believe that the Wii is "Next Gen" technology or in your case this Gen which I know we are already into this Generation of gaming and its not referred to "next gen" anymore but when speaking of technology I feel the Wii is inferior...its my opinion and Im comparing it to a PS2 technology wise thats why I said it should be considered as a last Generation system...its like a gamecubex2...all they did was create a new control scheme(which I love the Wiis Controller). Also the reason you have not seen huge upgrades in terms of Graphics between the 360 and the Ps3 is because games are usually first developed for the 360(WHICH IS EASIER TO DEVELOP FOR) and then PORTED to the Ps3...Killzone 2 and MGS 4 which are Exclusive to the Ps3 look INCREDIBLE...and 1st party Wii games ALWAYS SELL BETTER on the Wii...I think you should google some artivles on that...or just click the HOME menu here and look at sales charts also....Also wanna state the fact Im not arguing with you or anything I appreciate your opinion. :)

Sony ain't coming back this gen for sure. There's always next gen though.

Again: it's irrelevant that Nintendo's games sell more than 3rd party games as long as those 3rd party games sell good. And according to NPD Wii sells MOST 3rd party games of all systems, DESPITE these powerfull Nintendo titles. Please explain to me why Activision would be sad that Wii Fit is the best selling Wii title when they make tons of money with Guitar Hero on the system.
I'll retstate: If you believe Wii is last gen, you must at the same time believe that gaming is almost dead, since the current gen consoles have only sold 45 million combined in 3 years. It's up to you: or gaming is close to dead as a form of entertainment or Wii is in fact a current gen system.
I don't deny that the PS3 is strongr than the 360, however since 95% of all games are multiplatform with 360 this doesn't really matter. Since PS3 is pretty far behind 360 (and will lnot likely pass it anytime soon) AND 360 owners buy loads of software 360 will very likely remain the main development platform for PS360 titles. Just like last gen GC and Xbox were stronger than PS2, but most games were built to play on PS2. Those few 1st party exclusives do look incredible, but I think this gen has proved that graphics don't sell systems.
