You're absolutely right. MS and Sony don't try other things, and that's why Viva Pinata, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Little Big Planet, Echocrome, Patapon and Geometry Wars are all figments of my imagination.

But outside of those, what are the other hundreds of games? You can point to 1 out of every 50 games being something new and different, but that's about it.

 

There doesn't need to be a "...but outside of those...". You made an incorrect statement saying neither company bothers to try and I proved it wrong. Simple as that. Also what 1 out of every 50 games? Sony and Microsoft have barely published 50 games each for the 360 and PS3 as of today. Please don't tell me you were counting third party games. It should be plainly obvious they do not have control over third party software. If we were to go there, then I could show you just how unoriginal and uninspired the Wii library is also.

 

 

Well, if you're going to get picky, how many of those games you listed are first party?

 

Geometry Wars is on the Wii and DS also. Banjo is 2nd party. I'm not sure about the rest, but I have a feeling they aren't straight up 1st party games.

 

And yes, I speak of the entire library of games as a whole. There are like 5 games you listed that give people variety, and that's pretty weak.

How is Banjo 2nd party ? Rare belongs to MS 100%ly,which is considered 1st party. 2nd party would be Epics work on Gears.

No offense but even Nintendo has only released 4 or 5 titles outside of the same titles they were releasing on the GameCube(Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Fit, Wii Music). Sure they are more successful but they aren't releasing mounds more than Sony or Microsoft. Or do Sony and Microsoft have to create 5 million plus sellers for their efforts to be appreciated?

People who are offended by this must not be very familiar with Maddox's particular brand of humor. This is par for the course.

Not too shabby, either. He's funny even when he attacks things I like, so I'm not too offended by his 360 tirade.

It did remind me I need to pick up Ninja Gaiden, though.

He sounds really bitter that PC doesn't get much of the limelight these days.

What if we can't afford high end spec computers? What if the majority of our friends own and Xbox 360 and don't do PC gaming and you want to play with them? What if you want every other aspect of what the 360 has to offer, XBLA, Marketplace, Primetime, Netflix, all on one box.

PC is at it's prime today (over 260 millions PC gamers), so I don't know what you're talking about PC not being in the limelight. I think the fact that 9 games in Xbox 360's top10 are on PC proves that too (and the one that's not on PC is a game that sooner or later it will probably come).

 

Actually its 7 out of 10, which goes to show how much you read it, unless of course you count Gears of war 2 as a 2009 exclusive!!!  and Halo 3 as a 2010 exclusive!!! for PC?

Now, I post this only because there is a LOT of information out there that lists Rare as a 2nd party to Microsoft. It does appear though, that they are first party. I was mistakenly thinking that Microsoft had only purchased a majority stake in the company.

However, that doesn't negate what I've stated. There are a handful, a pitance, of games on the 360 that cater to anything other than the same old, same old.

The wii's library isn't just pure innovation either. What are people hyped for right now? Mad World? The Conduit? Some JRPGS? No More Heroes 2? Little King's Story? Then there is the huge library of games like Mushroom Men, Smash Bros, Mario Kart and all those other unique titles. Most of what people brag about on the wii isn't innovative either.

Yes, the wii does get things like Trauma Center and cooking mama and Wii-fit, but don't act like it's shitting out one gold nugget of innovation after the other while the other machines are stuck in FPS town.


As for the article I agree with the Mcdonald's foodie analogy. Just playing one super marketed hollywood hit after another doesn't make one a connoisseur of gaming.

Also The Alphabet of manliness is awesome. I popped like six boners reading it and my boner slapped a baby and then it's mom was turned on which was sick because of the dead baby but I didn't even care, so we porked.
