"Of those, here is the number of games you can't get on PC: 1. That game is Halo 3, and guess what? It's coming out on PC too. There's no reason to own an Xbox 360, period. Xbox Live: who cares? I already have the Internet, and can play with my friends on free servers all I want. Yeah there aren't achievements like on 360 on PC, but so what? I'm not about to pay $400+ just to have achievements in my games."

He sounds really bitter that PC doesn't get much of the limelight these days.

What if we can't afford high end spec computers? What if the majority of our friends own and Xbox 360 and don't do PC gaming and you want to play with them? What if you want every other aspect of what the 360 has to offer, XBLA, Marketplace, Primetime, Netflix, all on one box.

PC is at it's prime today (over 260 millions PC gamers), so I don't know what you're talking about PC not being in the limelight. I think the fact that 9 games in Xbox 360's top10 are on PC proves that too (and the one that's not on PC is a game that sooner or later it will probably come).

I could be wrong here, but I think what he meant is that the PC isn't in the limelight in the way that many of those shared games are more heavily associated as being console games than PC games. Case in point, last generation GTA was heavily associated with the Playstation brand even though it was on the Xbox and PC too. Games like Gears, Fable, Mass Effect, Halo, Viva Pinata, etc. may appear on the PC, but they are much more heavily associated with being 360 games. Some others like the Orange Box and Left4Dead obviously have the opposite association.

Yep. It's totally fine when someone shits all over the 360 and praises the Wii but whenever someone does the opposite, the site/person should be banned and loses credibility (see IGN). I understand completely. People can have opinions as long as they are correct.

Yep.  Let's not try and refute any point he has made, or discuss his opinion. Let's just call the waaaambulance because someone has a differing opinion.

Maddox likes to talk, but he forgets that in the end, the consumers decide what games get made. He's mad at MS and Sony for focussing on shooters? Guess what, most of these games are 3rd party games. And if consumers bought the type of games he's talking about, 3rd parties would make them.

He seems to picture the big wigs at MS and Sony smoking cigars and laughing while saying things like, "Platformers! Ha! I want none of those sales! Cancel the projects, and get to work ON ANOTHER FIRST PERSON SHOOTER!"

What happens is companies make those games... and then all of a sudden they notice that while they barely cover their development costs, those making Call of Duty, Gears, and Halo are swimming in Scrooge-McDuck style money-bins. When new FPS games stop dominating the charts, and the consumers support the efforts of other genres, then developers will make more of those games.

Also, I have a gaming PC. But not all my friends do. But they all have 360s, making any game that comes on on PC and 360 at once a 360 purchase for me. Also, even games where the PC is the platform of choice for (i.e. Mass Effect is said to be much better on the PC) sometimes I prefer gaming on the couch in front of a big TV more than at a desk. Is the 360 a PC? In many ways, yes. But how is that a bad thing? it's a versatile system that allows DLing games and movies, and is truely an entertainment hub. And is brings this versatile entertainment hub to those who aren't PC users, and for a very small cost. But anyone who has been to Maddox site realizes that even when you agree with some of what he says, he's quick to hand out scathing denouncements that aren't always deserved.

Games like Cooking Mama, and Trauma Center are on the Wii and sell. How can you say they wouldn't sell on the PS3 or 360 if they are never made?

And that's his point: MS and Sony don't even bother TRYING other things, because they know that they can just keep selling FPS and TPS games to the same customers over, and over.

Which also goes to his point about the supposed "hardcore"...

You're absolutely right. MS and Sony don't try other things, and that's why Viva Pinata, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Little Big Planet, Echocrome, Patapon and Geometry Wars are all figments of my imagination.

And those are all good, minus Banjo. And you forgot Loco Roco.

But outside of those, what are the other hundreds of games? You can point to 1 out of every 50 games being something new and different, but that's about it.

There doesn't need to be a "...but outside of those...". You made an incorrect statement saying neither company bothers to try and I proved it wrong. Simple as that. Also what 1 out of every 50 games? Sony and Microsoft have barely published 50 games each for the 360 and PS3 as of today. Please don't tell me you were counting third party games. It should be plainly obvious they do not have control over third party software. If we were to go there, then I could show you just how unoriginal and uninspired the Wii library is also.

His web page and books are awesome. I will have to read this later.

When he talks about X360 is pure gold. Kinda agree with him (not fully agree because X360 has many good exclusives to me :P but still all the big ones went PC  ).

Never heard of the guy or his site but I agree with everything he said.

He seems to like his consoles being consoles and not PC-lites.

Also one of the better descriptions of hardcore and "hardcore" I've seen.
