Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo fans calling for the downfall of hardcore gaming, why?

It's hard to concentrate after reading "HD GAMERS" as my eyes start to roll to the back of my head. That's such a buzzword, on par with the "16 bit" gamers of the 90's.

Not only has HD gaming been around since the 90's, Halo 3 and GTA IV (ps3) aren't even HD.

PC + Wii owners unite.  Our last-gen dying platforms have access to nearly every 90+ rated game this gen.  Building a PC that visually outperforms PS360 is cheap and easy.    Oct 7th 2010 predictions (made Dec 17th '08)

I didn't realise I called for anything other than for those PS3 and 360 fans (not all of them, just some) that seem to think the Wii is poisoning their world to wake up and smell the roses.

Whenever I see a Nintendo fan tell us HD gamers that hardcore gaming is going the way of the dodo, we should all quit or jump off a cliff, I take a look at their gaming collection and, suprise suprise, it's fall of hardcore games. This has happened every time. Never has a rea casual gamer told me that hardcore gaming should die. It's a selfish thing to do really, casual gamers couldn't care less what we play.

So, why are hardcore gamers telling hardcore gamers that we are dieing out? Surely not, right? Ask a Nintendo fan what his top 5 games he/she has ever played and they will reply with some combination of Zelda/Mario - hardcore franchises. You see, this is all getting a bit too much for me to understand at this point.

Now, I've played a few casual games on my Wii. Wii Sports and Play are a blast for about 10 minutes. They're great for short bursts of gameplay. So why aren't these games on Nintendo fans best ever games lists? Because they're not. Far from it. They have no depth, no point beyond a few minutes of fun with your friends and family. This is what casual gaming is and no matter how many times Nintendo fans may pretend they want it, deep down they don't.

There are far more casual gamers with a Wii than hardcore gamers. Nintendo doesn't have or want to cater for you specifically any more. The new Zelda will not be anything like OOT, WW or TP. For better or worse, Nintendo will stop aiming any of their games at hardcore players.

So, ask yourself this Nintendo fans, how much did you enjoy Wii Music? Did you enjoy it enough for Zelda and EVERY other Nintendo franchise you love to be on the same intellectual level? Because this is what you're all claiming. I suggest you think about it.

One of the few and good reasons I never post anything controversial here and never express what my feelings for my favorite console frequently. I'm sorry you had to hear such a statement. Just ignore them, since they are usually fanboyish remarks. (Anything insulting to another console, like it's game are going to die, imo, is a fanboyish comment.) You should note that not all Nintendo fans say this, though.

However, I don't think Nintendo will release new games like Wii Music and expect hardcores to enjoy it, though. (If this is what your post is implying. If it isn't, ignore this post.) The confirmation of a new Zelda and Mario sequel for the Wii, possibly, from Miyamoto (the first time there's 2 major Mario games for a 3d home console), and other games from their october(?) convention after e3, listing Sin and Punishment 2, the Trace Memory series, Moonwalker (I think that's what the game is called), and Punchout2 for 2009 looks hardcore to me. They even announced Pikmin 3 in the works for Wii (not to be confused with the GC Pikmin ports).

Again if this ^^ isn't what you are implying from your post, then ignore this post.

Its because people are tired of graphics whores. Most "hardcore" gamers are graphics whores who set up the HD industry for failure. Any game that is not AAA graphic wise has sales hurt as a result of this. And, with the cost of HD projects, it is causing massive losses.

The problem is not that we dislike a fps, or anything like that. Some gamers might not like them, thats fine. But, alot of gamers like the new games too. Anyways, the problem is the industry crashes and burns if the current HD paradigm is the one that is the most prevalent, it really is that simple. most wii fans don't want to see the industry die and want to play the games they like on a new innovative console.

Personally, I don't want the xbox 360 or ps3 to succeed because of these costs and how it hurts the industry as a whole. I want the games to be moved to the wii so because there are more profit, more niche titles, and more fun. That does not mean I don't like the games that have been developed; I like Halo, I like Lost Odyssey, etc, but I realize what is going to happen.

So thats the issue. Plus, for sony, I am still a little bitter about ps1 taking ffvii :P

Yeah... I haven't seen this -- Nintendo fans calling for the death of hardcore gaming, or even suggesting that it's happening -- that I can remember.

Nintendo fans say a lot of controversial* things, like: "the market is expanding," or "casual vs. hardcore is a false dichotomy," or "different people have different tastes, which are equally valid," or "girls & old folks should be allowed to game, too." But saying that the traditional core games like FPS's, RPGs, Adventure games, etc., are or should be dying? No. They don't say that.

Instead, this just seems like another Trojan-horse argument for the OP to get the opportunity to bash the things he doesn't like. Re: casual games, "[t]hey have no depth, no point beyond a few minutes of fun with your friends and family."

I've noticed this before. PS360 fans taking the kinds of lame arguments *they* usually make to bash the Wii, putting those same arguments into the mouths of Wii supporters, and then using it as a way to "subtly" attack while supposedly defending themselves. It'd be neat, if it wasn't so obvious.

*Controversial, that is, to some PS360 fanboys.

Exactly.  I really don't understand all the hate for these new types of games that you may not personally enjoy.

I mean, to use a movie comparison, no one minds that High School Musical or The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants exists, as long as they get their Terminator Salvations, Dark Knights, and I Am Legends.  But when a HSM video game appears, it's like the apocalypse.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

That's funny. You're the one that says that stuff. That doesn't mean all Nintendo fans are this reasonable. There are some crazy Nintendo people out there and you know it.

@OP: Don't judge every Nintendo fan by what one or a few of them said. If someone really said that, they were probably just trying to get under some other fanboy skin (maybe yours) . You see, that's what fanboys do. They try to make other people mad by saying idiotic things. But then again, you'd know this, seeing that's what you're trying to do.

Quem disse que a boca é tua?

Qual é, Dadinho...?

Dadinho é o caralho! Meu nome agora é Zé Pequeno!

What? This is...stupid. I believe in good and bad games, not hardcore and casual games. Good is good and bad is bad. That's all there is to it.

My Games of 2011:

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Super Mario 3D Land

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception

A world where there is no distinction between the casual and the hardcore, where everyone simply plays games and enjoys them and no one judges another person based on their tastes? Where all tastes are fulfilled, and no one begrudges their fellow players the resources needed to make games suited to the other guy's tastes?

Just puts a knot in your stomach.

Well, yeah, there are crazies on all sides, no doubt.  But I think that there are differences in the "mainstream," accepted arguments that the sides use.  That casual gaming sucks and is destroying life as we know it is so common, it's cliche.  You don't have to be a "crazy" fanboy to say such a thing & get a lot of agreement.  But I don't hear that same kind of thing coming out of the mainstream of Wii fanboys...

Or, maybe people do make those arguments, on other sites or in person?  I don't know.  I just know what I see in these forums, and I don't find any of the Wii supporters that anyone would listen to calling for the death of hardcore gaming.
