Forums - Sony - Now that the numbers are in, will Sony buy Level-5?

Lol. Sony don't have the ability to be throwing money around.

If they buy anything, it'll be Media Molecule. Cheap and small for now, but it will improve in the future.

And if Sony bought Level 5, they would have to give up Dragon Quest. And that's not happening.

Yeah Media Molecule would be a good buy, but I doubt it'll happen. We can just hope the sony doesn't downsize the games decision now....

@ Fernado

Inazuma Eleven Break doesn't have a platform.

Yeah, but from the screens we got it obviously looks like a Wii game.

Anyway, no. Their games sell better on Nintendo platforms, and Sony isn't in the best situation right now so why buy them? And a new PS3 game they'd make would release in like the next 2-3 years. That wouldn't save them. And although reaching 400k is a possibility and is good, that's not "OMG we have to buy them levels!"

They could've bought more popular companies in the past (like Square) if they really wanted to. But Level 5? No. Level 5 wouldn't give themselves up either.

I'm just saying, we don't know the platform. I'll repeat til L5 goes out and says it.

@ Paperdiego

And it's a shame that L5 won't recieve any of that money directly.

@ Kantor

L5 wouldn't have to give up anything, outside of the few DS projects left (the Studio Ghilibi etc. Layton is over). DQ 9 is finished and all that's left is polish. SE has let four studios make the DQ series, and I wouldn't be surprised to see someone else make DQX

I don't think Sony will be buying Level 5. They have plenty of RPG's on the horizon even though most aren't JRPgs. WRPGs and MMORPGs seem to be where the money is nowadays.

To all the people saying that L5's next game for PS3 would take 2-4 years, I don't think so. They have an engine in place, which takes out a majority of the work(seems to have net code to boot). I'm sure they could pump out Dark Cloud 3 or Rogue Galaxy 2 in 18 months, 2 years max. Or even revisit their MMORPG idea that was canceled for 360 with relative ease.

Even if Sony didn't have financial troubles it wouldn't be a good acquisition. JRPGs not named FF/DQ/KH aren't system sellers and L5 has it's most important franchise on the DS.

In Sony's current situation there's really one answer to the possibility of them buying L5: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

as long as L5 makes more exclusives on ps3 then thats fine by me,

i dont think sony will buy level 5, but they may aquire exclusive licenses from them on rpg games.

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Is there anyone in this thread who actually thinks it will happen... I mean really?

It's not going to happen Level 5 makes most of their money on DS games. Being owned by Sony would mean less revenue in game sales and probably eventually being bankrupt due to shrinking revenue the same thing happened to Free Radical Design.

I came in to this thread thinking it was about Factor 5. I have now discovered it is about the developers of Professor Layton and the next Dragon Quest. How can Sony buy them?
