Forums - Nintendo - Wii Developer To Fans: Keep Me From Making Mini-Games

de Blob is one of the defacto games for the wii. It is an amazing game, and it fits the casual style of gaming, it is rated well for a very good reason.
If an awesome game can only sell 700k units in four months on an install base of 45 million then yes i would consider that a failure.
Of course it will make money, but then again carnival games probably has an eigth of the cost and nearly double the sales.

I don't think Deadly Creature will even sell close to what de Blob sold.

You don't keep up with the Wii very much, do you? In general, games on the Wii have extremely good legs, and continue to sell over time. You shouldn't compare sales patterns on the Wii to other systems, as it's proven time and again that it's different.

Is this some sort of threat?

By all means go back to mini-games. Another publisher/developer will cash in on the Wii money tree and you will be left going belly up.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

At the rate the wii sells, the game is actually selling less and less per week. Do some math, and remember that christmas distorts sales.

EDIT: sorry to correct you again, but it is the 1st party games that have great legs on the wii.

nonetheless, they will still make money on the investment. But there is no point in doing so when higher profit exists in another form.

If deadly creatures is the case then you better get started on the next minigame collection THQ

This isn't a diss to wii, its just that I was trying to recommend some upcoming wii games to a few friends and I really gave deadly creatures a hard look. I really really really wanted to recommend it but even with such a starting advantage I couldn't bring myself to do it.
I recommended Oneechanbara and Mushroom men instead

whilst de blob sold to casual and hardcore deadly creatures needs to sell to the cascore (thosewho dont use the internet but buy games based on coolness)

i mean in february youve got the choice to play as a ninja, a detective zombie killer, a bikini clas zombie killer, or a bug. i dont see it happeneing for dealy creatures, maybe around 300k lifetime

Don't make me start posting a list of third party games like Mario & Sonic that prove this wrong, I don't want to waste the time finding it while I should be studying for math. :P

THQ is doing quite well in terms of serving my interests.... I will be getting both De-Blob and Deadly Creatures.

If game A sells 20k/week-1000, and console A sells 1m/week+100k
then you can see my point.

plus, it is a sonic game, you really think I'm talking about a game featuring one of the top 5 most known vg characters of all time?
To add to that, it was an olympics year, and by far one of the biggest, most watched of all time.
