Forums - PC Discussion - Windows 7 faster than Vista, leaps XP in single bound

The key is to making stable drivers out of the box. Good driver support early on will win over the masses.

Vista drivers will work with W7 the same way 2000/XP drivers did

Never argue with idiots
They bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience

At the moment Apple is too specialised in Audio/Video/Graphic development.

Disco Stu thought he was still living the 70's and from your post it appears you think you still are living the 90's.

There's more to Macs than Audio/Video/Graphics and it goes both ways since these days PC's are perfectly capable of Audio/Video/Graphics. Heck, with Autodesk only releasing their tools on PC/Linux environment there's certain steps of the audiovisual production process that you can only do at a real pro level outside the mac environment.

This testing is flawed. Unlike what this test shows, Vista does NOT beat XP except on very new hardware. The testing should have been done on an average setup which contrary to PC gamers' expectations is about a 2.8GHz P4 with Intel integrated graphics. Obviously 7 will beat Vista, but on the hardware that currently doesn't run Vista (i.e. netbooks and old PCs), 7 will not change that.

I dont think integrated graphics would be a fair choice.. how would macs perform on integrated intel graphic cards- not too well either .. a geforce GS setup would/should be the bare minimum for any test PC. Intel graphics accelerators are just pathetic

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

The plastic macbooks are running with integrated intel graphics. Fetch one and tell us how does it perform =)

I just want 7 to have backwards compatibility with XP drivers.

I have an old Sony TRV350 camcorder that I have recorded 200+ hours of video tape with, and I can't pull them off the camera digitally due to the fact Sony never released a Vista USB driver for it.

I seriously don't know why people say Vista is slower than XP... On my computers it's consistently faster at the thing which matters most (launching applications). Even on my laptop which has only 1 GB of RAM.

Your camcorder also has a firewire connection (sony calls it i.link). Ask a friend with a Mac or buy a 2nd hand cheap mac to do the job. It should work but just in case it'd be good if you could test it beforehand. Usually sony's are no problem tho.

That...or he could see if Windows 7 supports xp drivers and if not, he could just have an XP partition on his hard drive while using XP for other things.

Ive never seen someone try to sell macs with every post they make...

^^^ i.Link works with Vista apparently. I actually just bought an i.Link cable on eBay just prior to you writing that... so we shall see how it works!
