I've ben pretty impressed with Windows 7 Beta 1.
Its stable, no major compatibility issues and there are some nice UI tweaks that actually make the OS more useful.
Hell, I'd say its better than Vista was until SP1.

Apple will need to start doing some pretty special things in server environments before they can make any real headroom into the Microsoft market share. At the moment Apple is too specialised in Audio/Video/Graphic development.
Linux may be cheaper to implement, but its more expensive to support in the long run because less techs who know how to manage it can demand higher salaries and they are simply harder to find, especially when you need expertise in a particular version of Linux.
I'm definitely looking forward to what Windows 7 can do.

^This. My laptop is dying and I've been resisting the vista upgrade for a while now. This looks promising. My laptop can't even shut down without freezing now so I hope windows 7 is released soon.

As long as you have at least 2GB of RAM Vista is fine, in fact on new PCs with updated drivers I have found the user interface to be far more quick and responsive than XP. I've been using it on a laptop since it came out and I don't get the big deal about all the Vista critisism even pre SP1. Sure I've had a few BSODs but not on a regular basis and I cannot remember the last time I properly restarted my laptop, it always goes into standby day in day out.
Before I added the extra 1GB of RAM to make it 2GB, I agree, it was an absolute pig, but since then, not a single problem. With the cost of RAM these days I really don't see the issue.

Seriously though I need to switch back. I just love Steam so much...!
never upgraded to Vista, but I'll be getting Windows 7 when it comes out
The key is to making stable drivers out of the box. Good driver support early on will win over the masses.
im considering the upgrade since M$ is fixing their crappy security issues.
