Forums - Sony - Recent preview of HEAVY RAIN from 1up.com brought to you by CGI-Quality!

I'm not reading al of that!

All I need is pictures to be hyped for this game, some gameplay videos wouldn't go a miss though!

I loved Indigo Prophecy. It may be linear and comprised of sequences of QTEs, but I loved the characterization and plot twists. If Heavy Rain has a good story and execution, then I think gamers will be in for a treat.

You know nothing about Heavy Rain if you think it's 'just' an interactive movie

You control your character through the entire game QD even stated that there won't be any non-interactive 'cutscenes' unless highly needed.  You choose all of your actions as you progress through the game, where you walk, drive, pick which door to open, pick a room to go or not go in; it's completely non-linear.

Yes it could flop, but only if it were 'just' an ineractive movie.  I could see it flop, if all you did was press buttons through various cutscenes, that would be boring.

People must be scared of change when it comes to video games, they never accept something such as this any good.  *sigh*

Uhm, can you show me something else than this,

If thats all what that game is about, it looks more like dragons lair than highly interactive game.

Much better and more descriptive (note: the actual video isn't English translated).  I watched this video, through all of the gameplay footage.

Oh and if you don't want to watch the video you can read what Heavy Rain will be all about, in this Tech Demo:

"In this demo, the player takes the role of a young journalist who is investigating on several girls' disappearances, she goes to a house of a taxidermist who is suspected of killing these women. In this presentation, the Producer of the game shows 2 different ways to finish this demo, there are lots of different ways to get through the story.

- Multiple view camera system, not always behind the girl.

- The demo is fully playable, no cut-scenes, the player can control the girl at any time

- The Sixaxis motion sensor is used in the game to make different moves (open a window, raise or hit on an object, etc.).

- It is possible to hear what is happening in the mind of the character, so the player knows the different choices that are available.

- No loadings in the game!

- Backgrounds are fully interactive (all objects can be used, all doors can be opened, etc.).

- Very interesting Split Screen System to keep an eye on the murderer, control the character at the same time.

- The player has to maintain several buttons to stay hidden, uncomfortable situation for the player to reproduce the same stress in the game."

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

(I watched the video... I don't understand french, but did understand the picture. :) )

So... Theres exploration mode in highly static world and all action is just button mashing in right time. Sorry, but that just doesn't impress me. And player really can't control the girl at any time. In some situations player can choose to press correct button or not. 'All objects can be used', erm... its more like 'All objects that has some sort of script can be used to launch the script.'. :D

Btw, ninja blade on X360 does have similar system.

That doesn't impress me either, it just makes me sad as they are just killing interaction. Still, I think that Heavy Rain has high possibility to flop.

This is one of my most anticipated games of 2009. I expect a lot of people to just 'not get it' though.

It's not like most game, where you actively compete against others (be they real people or AI oponents, or even the environment in the case of platformers) and reaction time and skill is required to win. If you look at almost all games being produce now days they almost all conform to this sort of gameplay.

Heavy Rain is as much an experience as it is a game.

Also, it's a serial killer story. They're always cool, be they in movies or books. I don't think I've ever heard of a videogame with a serous serial killer story. I'm really interested in seeing what the game storytelling medium can bring to an otherwise overplayed genre.

Same level (which is not part of the game) but played live by someone.

And, since I understand french, I understand what the guy says, and it really hypes me!!!

QFT...And with the right kind of marketing, that could become a reality!

Some kind of marketing like LBP? For a new IP, it worked like a charm! ^^

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

One of my Must buys for this year so far.

The game seems to focus too much on "CGI-Quality" and graphics lol. The gameplay hasn't impressed me and the term "interactive drama" sounds boring.

Perhaps, I'll change my opinion in the future.

note that they mantioned grim fandango so is not an action game is a puzzle adveture game, if the game play is not of your liking is not because is not doing what it should, is just that you are not into it.
