^ Well I know alot of people who love the first. The 2nd game was crap though. the 3rd however looks good.

2nd was good as well...It did make lot unique stuff that other shooters then mastered.
But I fear that this game will be bad..
And I'm not interested what troubles they are having with Ps3..
Take my love, take my land..

Unified memory is used in non-gaming laptops and low end pcs because it is cheaper. Almost all pc games require a certain amount of video ram, which is dedicated not unified. There is no difference in the amount of ram between the 360 and the PS3, but there is a difference in allocation, speed, and bus architecture between the 2. I am not saying either is better or worse, just different.
It's a good thing that Volition started this controversy, I had forgotten this game existed. Are we starting to see publishers using fanboys as viral marketers?
Thanks for the input, Jeff.
It's bearly different when you really think about it. PS3 has 256mb of DDR3, and 256XDR. That's a total of 512MB.
360 has 512 DDR3 total. Same. I'm guessing whey they say 512MB they really mean around 480.... It's less. Like on and 80GB HDD you really just have 74GB. For the 256's in ps3 they are really around 230.
[I'm to lazy too check the actuall numbers]
PS3 = 230 + 230 = 460
360 = 480....
No, these aren't the actual numbers. But it's some where around there.
My point is, the difference is very small.

your confusing storage memory with main memory or ram which isn't permanent, they are very different things.

I know there's a difference between the to. But the sizes and amounts that they hold don't work in the same way?

So the ps3 has a memory issue, well, isnt that something new. No wait...its not! We all know the issue!

But the PS3 version of Red Faction has had way more trouble running on the PS3 than the 360. Funny how people on this site leave this info out. http://www.destructoid.com/ps3-development-of-red-faction-didn-t-go-so-smoothly-109816.phtml "One little change and you're out of memory. When it comes to PlayStation3, there's less memory to work with. We actually ended up hiring some from Sony to help us make our PS3 version. Fortunately, they are the same. We've been able to make sure that PC, 360 and PS3 versions are the same."Look at these following comments by Sean Kennedy lead producer on Red Faction. Attention all PlayStation 3 owner who are planning to get their hands on the PlayStation 3 version of the game Red Faction: Guerrilla. The games Associate Producer Sean Kennedy has just admitted to CVG that the extra help was needed to bring the PlayStation3 version up to speed with the Xbox 360 version. Kennedy even stressed how hard Red Faction: Guerilla is pushing the current-gen technology and then says that the lack of memory on PlayStation3 causes a additional headache. “I mean, to be honest, we are pushing the Xbox 360 and PlayStation3 to the limits,” he says. “I mean, not only has it been a balancing act making destruction work with the gameplay and making it all come together in a cohesive way that’s fun, but it’s been a balancing act getting the game to run on the systems.” http://www.gamercenteronline.net/2008/11/01/volition-we-struggled-with-ps3-red-faction http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/10/31/volition-we-struggled-with-ps3-red-faction/ http://www.ps3news.com/story/title/volition-we-struggled-with-playstation-3-red-faction
So there you have it. Again people on this site choose to find and nitpick partial events. When in reality the most probable reason they are looking at 720 is because the PS3 couldnt do anymore. They had a harder time with the PS3 because the memory is a worse situation. Next time how about we keep VGC non fanboyish shall we? |
Good stuff man..
Look what i said not to long ago..
"
The game has OK graphics,thats not what they maxed out,they maxed out RAM,which BOTH systems PS3/360 have the SAME amount of RAM!,how ever the 360 can share its ram divide it between the two say 300 mbs for CPU and 212 for GPU,Where as the PS3 cannot,So Tech speaking this game is impossible on PS3." 360 being maxed out by Red Faction.

No it doesn't
Memory chip makers correctly advertise that 1GB of ram is 1024MB, HD makers started stating 1GB was 1000MB (which incorrect in computer land, as its really 0.97GB). You also lose a bit of space after formating the HD since Partition information and File information must be stored on the harddrive (and if its FAT32 and you've formatted a large drive, the file clusters end up being huge, 32KB, cluster is fully used regardless of the size of a file, 4k file uses 32k cluster hence it really uses 32k. a 48k file would use 64k aka 2 clusters etc. NTFS normally has 4k clusters but its the reason why you see file size and file size on disk if you use vista).
also from the OP Selnor:
"When in reality the most probable reason the yare looking at 720 is because the PS3 couldn't do anymore. they hard a harder time with ps3 because the memory is a worse situation"
Correct, Sony's OS does use more ram then microsoft's and the developer's can't pick how their memory is allocated. Although the split memory/video memory is very common, PC has had it for years, ps2 had it, hell the DS has it too :) However memory doesn't limit games to specific resolutions unless you don't have enough video memory to store the resolution's frame buffer, which in both cases the consoles can do it (although 360 has 10MB on die of memory which is ultra fast and used for frame buffers, alot of games on 360 go < 720 because they expliot that fast memory. ps3 has no such ram) so its then limited by the power of the GPUs, While the gpus on both the 360 and ps3 are powerful (I rate the 360 gpu as better overall) they are actually pretty darn slow compared to modern gpus and modern pc games find gaming at 1080p with superior gpus to what the consoles have sometimes not an option.
and now I'm drooling out of the side of my mouth.
Red Faction is shaping up to be the most hyped, powerful game that I have absolutely no interest in!
