game-wise, ps3 is not dreamcast. Dreamcast was an arcade and original games' dream machine. PS3 doesn't have that distinction.

PS3 is MOST EXPENSIVE console today on the market, and has YET to reach mass market price(249-299$).
When you people compare PS3 to DC or GC, you forget, that other consoles were selling for MUCH less, then PS3 today. =)

Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.
1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.
PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.

Your first point is valid...but you really don't want to compare the first and second party quality software for the dreamcast and PS3. Doing this does not turn out well for the PS3...
Playstation 3 did not have Shenmue 1-2, so it automatically fails ;)

No because its going to be second place in sales by gen end. It will maybe be like the N64 good but not great sales, and many great games like N64 had Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, and Ocarina of time. PS3 has GT5, GoW3, KZ2
Shenmue was badass, but you guys can't act like Sega had THAT strong of first party support. They had strong first party support, but Sony can definitely match if not beat it.

Anyway, I think you're right in that regard. Great system, doesn't have the third party support of its competitor (even though it does :-O) and...
No, I have to disagree. The PS3 is not a victim of the circumstances as much as a victim of technology. Sure, it would be doing better if there was no economic crisis, but it also wouldn't be affected by the economic crisis if it was cheaper.
As for the DreamCast... well, it was a great system, but it couldn't compete with the PS2. Nothing could.
