Forums - Sales - Incredible last few months of HD battle '08 in pictures...

Like both MS & Sony said - 'Others' is the battleground for this generation, especially for MS. If they can win it (for now), maybe Japan next generation...

I think this highlights the problem of building in a price drop yearly expectation.

Doubt that this has anything to do with it. More like a competition problem. Most games are available on 360 and PS3. The PS3 is build better and has a BluRay player but the 360 now costs half what the PS3 costs. Hell at current price point I would buy a 360.
But this is the point if your competition manages to release a comparable product much cheaper they will get the sales.

Und warum tust du es nicht einfach ?

@OP

Nice graphs. I expect them to rise even more in the next couple of months.

Weil ich schon eine PS3 habe. And there wouldn't be much point in getting a 360 as well. Most titles I cared about 2008 were multiplatform and the PS3 is the better machine from a hardware perspective.

If MS could even consistently stay in the same ballpark as Sony in Japan that would be a wonderful achievement for them.

Excellent job by M$ to stop Sony momentum and to build on their own. Congrats M$

This is an awesome thread. As Twestern stated, the graphs are telling. You can't spin that data - the 360 is winning the HD battle.

nothing's over. A PS3 pricecut will most certainly put the PS3 back on top in Europe. MS (writing M$ is so IN, i feel back in 1999!) must do more in europe to gain popularity. Of course, they can't neglect America.

I'm sick of people constantly saying that Sony will cut the price of the PS3 in April and that will solve all their problems.

A few things about that:

  1. Look at the above graphs.  It shows that MS isn't going to take a beating lying down.  MS wants to fight for the Others.
  2. Even with a price cut in April, the PS3 just won't close the gap until nearly a year later in Others.  It's just not going to happen.
  3. So well into 2010, do you really think that MS can't afford another price cut if Sony can afford to drop the price of their console from $600 to $300?

It's like people suddenly think MS doesn't give a crap about gaining a major foothold in the gaming world and also think that MS absolutely will not make a price drop because it wouldn't make sense even though it doesn't make sense for Sony to do a price drop in April.

Go XBox 360. Consumers chose lowest price and best value money system over the wallet straining PS3 which offers 90% of the same games library as XBox 360. Arguably the XBox 360 exclusives are better than the PS3 exclusives but that depends on taste.

You are comparing year 3 of 360 to year 2 of PS3, which isn't exactly fair. Here is a year 2.5 year graph that shows the PS3 isn't doing that badly (yet). Of course if things don't improve in the PS3's next year like they did recently for the 360, there might be a problem for the PS3...

Not saying the main chart is unfair...   just that launch aligned, the PS3 is still doing ok.
