Forums - Nintendo - Wiinoma: Nintendo's Video on Demand!

It's amazing that a game console is more set to take over the living room box than the others two. Only through software too. Maybe theres something to this software than hardware importance. just maybe.

I think this idea is cool. I heard there will be alot of anime based on another interview :)

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

If it doesnt have anime I doubt I'll watch but it's always nice to have the option.

People cant call this stupid. Youre not forced into this if you dont want it dont use it. I think its a good idea.

I heard it was supposed to have a lot of anime.

At launch I think there is supposed to be over 3,000 episodes of stuff. (maybe not)

Yeah theres a lot of anime series at laucnh. that was one of the major attraction.

The company also believes that of the 40 million Wii units sold around the world, about 18 million are connected to the internet. That percentage is expected to rise over coming months as recession bites and straitened family budgets encourage more home-based entertainment.

I don't have much to say about he channel, but that there is a very interesting statistic.

MS for instance claimed (early 2008 I think) that the X360 has an online connection percentage of about 60%... while Nintendo believes the Wii has 45% connected.

If the programming is good and has a USP or a 'hook' to get people interested then it should be a success. I would also expect Nintendo to concentrate on refining and enhancing the service a bit before making worldwide. Its bound to have teething troubles (most things do) so I would say expanding into other markets would be 2010 at the earliest. Also the guy saying Wii Music flopped is correct in a critical sense and when compared to Wii Fit/Play/Sports. Doesn't mean it aint successful though.

However, Nintendo's success as a broadcaster is hardly guaranteed: the company has attempted to use previous generations of its consoles to deliver non-games content but every scheme has ended in failure. The company's big Christmas in-house title, Wii Music, has flopped - bringing to an end a long run of success in the current games market.

What?  And here I thought selling millions was a success.

Nope.  Wii Music was in development since before the Nintendo Wii's launch.  Nintendo pumped darn near a billion dollars into it's creation, including funding for a new Graphics/Physics engine that pushes the Wii to it's technical breaking point.  Wii Music will have to sell 14 million copies for Nintendo to break even.

And no.  14,000,000 multiplied by $50 does not equal a billion dollars.

Dentsu is the producer of both Bleach and Naruto

hmm...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

This is an interesting move alright - its a bit like a Disney channel. We might get to see all the old 'classic' Nintendo TV properties - Zelda, Mario, Pokemon cartoons, etc.

Will it all be free, or pay to view though (or a mix)? I guess the potential revenue from any TV channel is huge - and this has an international audience.

Still, these shows could cost a LOT to produce? If they intend to have it running 24hrs a day - and in lots of countries... millions of $$$ to fund this.

...

The more I think about it, the more this is a HUGE development. I'll be watching how his develops very keenly...
