Forums - Nintendo - The Wii is supposed to be a gaming revolution? Oh dear..

I heard PS3 defense force guys get a cool T-Shirt, saying PStrizzle defizzilziizel.

Do the Xbots and Wiitards get one too?

@Op

Congrats you played video games!
What do you think? You have my condolences then =(

Hey seriously guy, if you don't want it sell it, nows the season lots of grandma's and little girls and hardcore nintendo fanboys want it, and will probably fork up $300 for it easy. ^_^

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

Around the Network

I agree with Outcast, although for me having owned every Nintendo system made the games even worse. There's nothing like playing Mario Kart Wii and learning that Nintendo was so lazy half the levels are ports from older versions.

The whole "Wii Revolution" seems to involve selling us the same games that have been around since the N64 but now with mediocre Motion Sensing controllers, oh boy!

Like its been mentioned the problem with this thread the problem is not with the opinions but how they are presented.

Imagine if a guy sits at a table with Christian people. They are talking about their faith and religion. Then they ask him where his faith lies. He could say...

"Currently I am not going to any church because I've yet to find a faith to call my own"

or...

"I don't believe in anything, only the simple minded believe in such thing".

If he had said the first sentence they would have disagreed with him, but would have respected him and moved on. But instead he said the second sentence, offending the people in the table, even though he had the right to believe that.

This is what is going on in this thread. The poster had the right to post his opinion on the best Wii games and the console itself. The problem is that he doesn't provide any real insight or thought into his comments. He just gives a quick blurb about the game and a rating. He doesn't tell us WHY he gave MP3 a 4/10, why the game deserves the score.

Then there's the title. He could've called the thread "My thoughts on the Wii" or "I just got a Wii, my comments inside". But instead decided to name the thread "The Wii is supposed to be a gaming revolution? Oh dear...". Note that he if believes that the Wii is not quite a revolution its alright. But when you create a title like this its basically asking for it. Its like going into a biker bar and shouting "WHAT'S UP YOU FREAKS!".

Finally, I am getting the vibe that this poster never really wanted a Wii, he just bought for the sake of buying it. He clearly loves the PS3 or any HD system, making the Wii his second console of choice, meaning that automatically he would prefer anything the other systems have to offer. Then, he bought the Wii so he could say "I bought it, played it and didn't like it". I've noticed that people that tend to do this end up being disappointed because their heart was not in the purchase. They weren't curious about it, or really wanted it. They just saw it and bought it.

From the titles he picked up he only chose the best rated titles, expecting the moon.

So to sum it all up for those that believe we Wii fans are criticizing the guy and can't accept negative opinion this poster simply didn't post his thoughts correctly and gives out a negative vibe that makes people believe that this thread was made in order to gain attention rather than to truly offer a good point of view.

Again, no offense to the poster but this was to be expected.

Wow I guess everybody who doesn't like the Nintendo games get smashed in this part of the VGChartz forum. Sad.

@OP

Maybe you will like games like: The Conduit, Madworld, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Disaster Day of Crisis

OH NO SOMEONE POSTED THEIR OPINIONS ON THE WII AND IT WAS NEGATIVE.

BAN HIM!

zero punctuation is just for fun XDDD

It is true that Yathzee doesn't give the religiously considered percentage notes of other reviewers. (Yeah my game got 95.556 on metacritic (sick) and 0.003 more than your game so its much better LOL) His comments are still a much better review than all these magazine twats who score a game depending on its predecessors and technicalities alone. And regarding the CPU LVL9 comment you should really watch the first ZEro Punctuation Mailbag link. Fits perfect

So are magic 8 balls and tarot cards. One self-obsessed cynical opinionated asshole isn't any better then another self-obsessed cynical opinionated asshole. Just because his opinions align closely with your own doesn't make him anymore correct then anyone else.

In fact, as much as I hate the rest of the "gaming media", someone like Ben Croshaw still fairs even worse as a an actual reviewer since his skits are more about jokes and rants then whatever he's actually playing. If you haven't played whatever game's he "reviewed", you'll likely gain almost no useful information from him. His entire shtick it finding a few aspects of the game that are funny to take out of context, run a bunch of jokes off that, throw in a rant if applicable, then finish on a gag.

He's not even that critical despite his reputation. He softballs his "reviews" for any game he likes, and in Portal's case he wouldn't even criticize it. He can be an entertaining one trick pony, but that hardly makes him more useful as a reviewer then anyone else out there with YouTube account and a microphone. He's just one who happens to get paid for it, which makes me even less likely to trust him?

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I'd give Twilight Princes a 9/10, Galaxies a 9/10, Metroid Prime 3 10/10, Mario Kart 9/10, SSBB 8/10, and Zack and Wiki a 7.5/10. Anyway, those are all awesome games to me, sucks that you didn't like most of them.

~Currently Playing Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank: FTOD, and Resistance: Retribution~

Wow you are an angry guy . But that's the thing about critics they don't have to be nice and they write about their opinions. In this time and age where whole fanboy hords guard every console/game series with their life this is no popular approach that is true. And in other areas the observations that are made are in most cases simply true. Anybody who argues that Uncharted has a new and innovative storyline should have his head examined. Now that doesn't mean that the game is bad if you do not mind that part. But that is a different point.

Now the second question is if he is correct. And this is a difficult question since again we are talking about opinions. You cannot pin an objective number on the quality and enjoyment of a game or movie. There are some objective observation you can make but in the end you have to offer an opinion.

If you haven't played whatever game's he "reviewed", you'll likely gain almost no useful information from him.

I never said that his "reviews" were great as a buying guide. Not the point is it.

He softballs his "reviews" for any game he likes

??? Eh yes if he likes it why should he slam it? That is again the point in reviews of games and movies and music: How much enjoyment did you get out of this game. Should be the only relevant point.

I really don't know which is more sad; the OP or the feverish attempts (and time wasted) at proving him wrong...
This always happens in here, dude A makes a scolding post about someones favourite console and dudes B through Z jump on the wagon and start firing back. Great fun but not at length.

I'm sorry that the experience did not work well for you. Given that you obviously prefer traditional control the results was perhaps predictable. The real difference between the two experiences is the more immersive involvement of using the intuitive and natural movements. If you dislike that in the same way that I dislike traditional controllers then I understand your dissappointment. I generally do not recommend veteran hardcore gamers try to switch unless they are unhappy with their HD consoles.

However, except for some inconvinience, you stand to lose very little. E-Bay is but a click away and you will find that fortunately your disappointment is very rare snd you may well actually get every cent back but probably make a small profit.

Currently there are only 294 used Wiis for sale compared to1672 new ones (an extraordinary 6:1 ratio) and even the used ones with good games are going at or above list.

Someone trying to cross the street the other way had best be more careful. The demand for HD consoles is of course much smaller and more used than new are available, up to (1:10) and the prices are much less favorable.

Thanks for trying out the Wii and I'm sorry we weren't able to have you join our growing community. Sounds like you had already found your place in the gaming world.
