Forums - Sony - 60gb PS3 backwards compatibilty was not a fan service, it failed the fans.

i spent 35 dollars on my adaptor(which is a nights drinking at the bar) then i gave it my buddy. there are still a few ps2 games that i still play and a couple that came out that i bought. my 60 Ps3 is going on 2 and a half years and it's doing me well. Faild me? Never. all she ask from me is more RPGs.

This hand of mine is burning red. It's loud cry is telling me to grasp victory.....SEKIHA TENKYOKEN!!!

None of them have had memory card slots

I bought my PS3 to play PS3 games, not PS2 games.

I do not care about BC and therefore thank Sony for putting a machine out where I don't have to pay extra to have something I will never use.

My PS3 actually upscales my PS2 games! I spent a whole day just tossing in PS2 games and saying "wow, that looks so much sharper". I bought the Memory Card adapter, but I only had to use it once. I wish I'd have known before I spent $20 on the thing. Anyhoo, whilst I hardly ever play PS2 games on my PS3, backwards compatability was a HUGE factor in my PS3 purchase.

Considering how in demand the 60GB PS3s still are on the used market, I'd have to disagree with the OP. The demand is most definitely there, and I can speak from personal experience that it's a much more desirable feature to have, regardless if it may be slightly cumbersome to use accessories with. Your PS3 controllers work with the PS2 games anyways, so I don't quite get the arguement there. The memory card thing is fully understandable though, but seems to be more of a minor inconvenience.

Plus that 60% you talk about that wouldn't know about BluRay and wouldn't know about needing a memory card reader also wouldn't know to find these things out in advance. They still purchased the PS3, so no loss of sales.

This holds untrue, for I also have 60gb PS3, fully backwards compatible. When I bought it my PS2s were the first to go. I didnt care about save data because I wanted to start from scratch with all of my games anyway. I think it was one of the most stupidest moves ever for SONY to NOT put BC in every system. I do not condone their taking away of features to get the price down because all that is doing is making it less worth the money.

My two cents.

Greatness Awaits

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)

Well PS1 controllers didn't work on the PS2, so your controller argument is 8 years too late.

I sold my PS2 for £30 and bought an adaptor for a fiver. Even without my adaptor I can still play my PS2 games from the beginning and can play all the PS2 games I didn't buy when I had my PS2.

you're joking, there is no spot for memory cards or controlers on the PS3??? so you also loose Rumble on the PS2 games (for the first 18 months???)

But I agree with the point, BC is for a console that sold badly, not the record breaking sales console...Hence why Wii haters that had no GC really don't have a clue on what they are missing :p

Though BC in PS3 is still good for new gamers... Then again new gamers should not spend $600 on a launch system!

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Although it is true that the PS3's backward-compatibility was never complete or frankly even adequate, especially given that the PS3's main source of good games was the PS2 for much of its early life, its first iterations were at least better than nothing. That is more than can be said for the current situation.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

B/C was great on the olds PS3's and although the lack of memory card slots were an issue, don't forget that PS3's (whether backwards compatable or not) ALL have internal memory cards that can be made and will hold just about all the memory you will ever need for ps2 and ps1 games
