60gb PS3 backwards compatibilty was not a fan service, it failed the fans.

B/C was great on the olds PS3's and although the lack of memory card slots were an issue, don't forget that PS3's (whether backwards compatable or not) ALL have internal memory cards that can be made and will hold just about all the memory you will ever need for ps2 and ps1 games
