Considering how in demand the 60GB PS3s still are on the used market, I'd have to disagree with the OP. The demand is most definitely there, and I can speak from personal experience that it's a much more desirable feature to have, regardless if it may be slightly cumbersome to use accessories with. Your PS3 controllers work with the PS2 games anyways, so I don't quite get the arguement there. The memory card thing is fully understandable though, but seems to be more of a minor inconvenience.
Plus that 60% you talk about that wouldn't know about BluRay and wouldn't know about needing a memory card reader also wouldn't know to find these things out in advance. They still purchased the PS3, so no loss of sales.
