Forums - Sony - The next Sony Console should be a pure games machine and nothing else.

@Soriku

The PS1 had CD playback. I have not had to purchase a stand alone device to play CD's since I got the PS1.

I understand that many people look at the extra features that the PS3 offers as PC functions, but I look at them as reasons not to have a big box with its own desk, and little 20in monitor. PS3 is the machine I have been waiting for since I got interested in electronics with the NES. Since I was very little I have always hated PCs due to all of the major problems that occur with them. Before the days of my family getting a NES we had a PC, and people always used to get PC games for me for presents, and at least half the time they did not work. It does not just stop at games either, every single aspect of computers is a royal pain in th &%* even for someone with my knowledge of them. What I want is an all in one box, that hooks up directly to my TV, has a footprint the size of the 360 (or smaller), and is simple to use.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

this is a really stupid thread. Sony should not focus on shoving massive multimedia tech in the next machine. Instead Sony should focus on getting multi media the smart way. Software. If the OS and harware layers are well designed even a non stuffed machine will be able to act a a hub.

The Wii homebrew side(software) has managed to get DVD playback, streaming audio/video. It already has a good browser(not great), working in parternship for type of Anime TV Channel. Considering if you mere the capabilities of homebrew with comercial you end up with a system just about as media rich capable. For a system that purely a game machine. it really shows that the term game machine is subjective to the software.

As I said. Sony reduce product, selling cost for a afforable machine and get most thing through software.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

They just need to include an improved Blu-ray drive, an upgraded Cell, more RAM and do a few other tweaks. It will basically be an upgraded PS3. Sony can then spend more time getting exclusives back, and the console shouldn't launch for more than $250.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "Pure games machine". Was the PS2 a pure games machine? It had a DVD drive, right?

I have to agree, I think that this would be the best plan for the PS4. Hopefully they get it right next time and forget about using the Playstation line as a trojan for needlessly expensive components.

I disagree. I want a multi-media beast like the PS3 and PSP. Just because it's focused more on multimedia than previous consoles doesn't mean it's the reason for the decrease in sales. Look at the Wii. Could you browse the internet, check the weather, news, view saved photos, and socialize with avatars on the N64 or Gamecube??? NO! Now compare the sales.

Who the hell didn't expect SONY to eventually drift in this direction?? In the PS1 era they were tooting their plans to have the Playstation brand a Major competitor in the PC field some day. PS1 was step one, creating a linux kit for the ps2 was probably step two. And look at the PS3 today, only thing SONY didn't calculate in was that their competitors [be it Nintendo, SEGA, MS, etc when ever] would up their game in the future like MS and Nintendo are today...

I disagree, convergence is the way to go. Even PS2 wasn't just a game machine, my roommate uses his as a DVD player all the time.

I don't know if sony were trying to be a major competitor to the PC, the PS2 was no-way near, the PS3 is still too far away.  When the PS1 first came out, PCs were 'how can I say it, just poo'.  And since the first 3D accelerator card ' Voodoo' first came out, consoles have been playing catch up ever since.

But I do have a though If microsoft though that sony were trying to enter the PC market via software (be it a operating system, software like word etc), all this was at a time people saw Bill Gates as the devil and microsoft as the Evil empire and sony could do nothing wrong at this time, it might of had microsoft worried a little.  And when microsoft are worried they tend to destory the competition........................

But how to destory a household name like sony ? bring out the xbox and then 360 no matter the cost and pay game companys to make games for only our machine.  Bring it out first even if its faulty, we have so much money we will sort it out.  And it seems to be working as sonys name has been dragged though the mud not only with the PS3 but others parts of sony as well, including over priced TVs etc.

PC gaming rules.....

i think they should keep it a multimedia device but focus and advertise on the gaming aspect most and not tack on too much features that make it overpriced

i like my ps3, better than anything out there...
