Never, BC requires additional components and with assembly lines it's far easier and cheaper to just slap a bigger hard drive on a system or some other peripheral and charge and extra $100.

Also BC becomes less and less of a factor as the generation moves on, the average consumer wants a BC compatible PS3 to play the hot new PS2 releases, which are long gone by this point.

It's anyone's guess... It could well never happen, since it currently requires special PS2 hardware (therefore a bigger motherboard) which is costly. Increasing the cost of the PS3 is certainly not something Sony wants to do, at least not for a few years.

On the other hand, who knows if they could implement a software-only emulator at some point? Again, it's anyone's guess. There's not much information one can use to make a good prediction AFAIK.

Not until the PS2 starts selling very badly and then when it does not sell well at $100, then when it does not sell well at $80......business wise does not make sense to ever put it back in while the PS2 remains.

don't know

keep checking amazon online store , they were selling it during the holidays or the month before -don't remeber exactly- and they may they sell it again

Are you sure about that? I remember the launch PS3's in the UK only being able to play a few PS2 games due to using software emulation and not having the PS2 chip unlike the NA launch PS3's.

That's what I meant. Full BC currently requires a PS2 chip (the graphical chip if I remember correctly).

From memory, it went like this:

Full BC PS3s have: PS2 CPU + PS2 graphical chip

Non-full BC PS3s have: PS2 graphical chip (emulating the CPU on the Cell)

PS3s with no PS2 BC don't have any PS2 chip of course.

EDIT - A better way to state it is "full BC requires two PS2 chips, all BC requires at least one chip". Apologies for any confusion.

get a PS2 if u want to play PS2 games........get a PS3 if u want to play PS3 games.....want both ??? get a PS2 and PS3 !





high price was the problem for everyone back then....they took BC out of the PS3 to make it more affordable......now there is a complain again.
