Forums - Gaming - PS3 had best lineup for holidays,Wii had worst = Wii sells 4 times more.

The reason why the Wii sells more is it is very profitable. It doesn't matter how cheap the 360 will be or how cheap the ps3 will be. Its also because the Wii has profitable software and hardware. Not to mention the fact their casual games outsell ps3 and 360's  games. I mean the Wii has Mario Kart Wii, Zelda series, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Wii Sports, which is on the verge of being the best selling game of all time. Not only that, but the fact the game Wii Sports is going to outsell is a game from Nintendo! Nintendo may have a terrible line-up for Holiday season, but it is very profitable. By the way, in my opnion, they had a great line-up. I mean, come on! They had Mario Kart Wii, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Wii Sports!

Sadly the average consumer is not as informed as we are and therefore has no idea that the Wii has a weaker library than the PS3.

So you think an informed father would rather pick MGS4 to play with his son than Mario Kart?

Think again.

ahh the lament of the upstream never understanding the values of the down stream. It's simpel really. It's been screamed out over the years. The fact that it hasn't sunk in yet amazingly doesn't suprise me either. I suppose it's just mental faculty of some upstream not capable of understanding.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

As a father of a video gaming daughter all I can say is, "Game over!"

But seriously, my daughter and I can play No More Heroes or Mario Kart together. It is not like it matters so long as she enjoys it. I think an informed parent will buy what is best for the situation. I enjoy playing Mario Kart and I enjoy playing Bioshock with my daughter. It is just that she enjoys Mario Kart a lot more. To not buy Mario Kart or even, say, Carnival games for example, would only hurt my chances of having games I can enjoy with my daughter and also limits her exposure to games. I am not ashamed of buying Cars: Mater-National for her just as I am not ashamed to buy Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (again example but this time of games I own) for her either. To say she will/should/would only enjoy Mortal Kombat or say, Bioshock instead of Cars is insane.

An informed person buys games that they know will get played and enjoyed. A biased gamer will buy only games that they think cater to themself but should cater to everyone else. An informed but biased gamer would know what I just stated in thee above paragraph is true, but still not understand Wii success.

Backwards logic man.

The Wii hardware and software doesn't sell more because it is really profitable.  It is really profitable because is sells more.

If sony sold more of the PS3, it would be more profitable too....wait, never mind about that.

i think Advertising comes into play here...

lately the PS3 has had nothing but bad advertisements/ bad reviews from TV/ retail stores. Every other advert on TV is an xbox360/wii advert (with them wierd people with people playing game in back of there head) and all holiday season i saw ONE ps3 advert. seriously, sony need to sort out there advertising and soon

Yeah what the hell is it with the people making that funny face and then they pan around so we can see inside their skulls? Those are the worst advertisments since the PS3 baby doll crying advertisments. Although less disturbing.

The HD consoles are like fine dining restaurants while the Wii is much more like a family restaurant. While the overly pretentious foodie will look down at a family restaurant, the family restaurant fits into the typical person’s budget and lifestyle much better than a fine dining restaurant does. A family restaurant is often silly and less refined, and they may have menu items that a foodie thinks are abominations (like Macaroni and Hot-Dogs), but when the food is well cooked it is pleasant enough to suit the tastes of most people.

Now, people will argue that the tastes of people who eat at family restaurants are less sophisticated than the foodie but I would not say that is (necessarily) the case. Realistically, a lot of the appeal of the family restaurant has nothing to do with the food. There is a convenience factor of not having to cook and not needing a reservation; there is the social factor of being able to take your 15 closest friends somewhere and being able to just have a lot of fun without upsetting anyone; and there is the accessibility factor, where you can take anyone from a 1 year old to a 100 year old to the restaurant without any problems.
