I think it was more that he "Thought" he was a graphics whore. But in reality he was actualy a realistic/immersion whore. But because of the way gaming has been and was going the only way to become more immersed into the game was with the improved graphics.
Well also improved AI/Physics and all that other junk, but those pretty much went hand in hand with graphics. i can't think of really a good ai/physics game that didn't have good graphics, so correct me if wrong. So he really was just a lost and confused soul. He thought he was a graphics whore, but was just confused, lol.
NO he is a graphics whore, he just has his prorities set straight :P
Really great story, i felt like i was reading a short novel or somthing. All the talk about high-tech PCs and equipment made me think youd go the PC route. Im getting this game next week on Wii, hopefully ill enjoy it as much.
also i totally agree with him about him saying he made the graphics and that girl super hot in that game, or way more than they were actually.
I remember like 64 games and when playing was thinking at time how insanely awesome and smooth/round and everything was. The graphics seemed amazing. Now when i put in an old game am like holy shit look at all those jaggies and everything. It's like you can count every individual polygon, lol.
Yet after playing the game for a decent time I don't notice at all and am immerced in the game. Its like those little tricks/test that have words spelled wrong or other things. And you can read the paragraph perfectly without having to stop and correct or be confused. Your mind automatically fixes it for you. The same with graphics, your mind smooths out or makes you see what you want to see. Come back here in 20 years and look at your comments you write about MGS4 or other games being praised this gen and see how amazing they are.
Play the games for how fun they are, not how pretty. I guess I'm just lucky that I can enjoy these "lesser" games. So many think FF7 is best story and amazing FF game. If it was release as is on PS3 (ff7 never existed before, lets pretend ff13 is 7) how many of you guys would miss out on this amazing game. kind of sucks for ya huh. *personally found ff7's story a bit dull and lacking myself

I feel that way about the mouse. I hate how I can shoot more accurately than a marksman at a firing range with a semi-automatic assault rifle whilst moving quicky over uneven terrain without even giving the impression of using the sites. Thats why I like playing with the crosshair off, because its fun to miss and really challenge yourself. A lot of the time the mouse is even less fun that auto-aiming like on the PS1. At least with the auto-aiming there wasn't a pretense of realism.

There was a really awesome mod for Unreal Tournament called Infiltration. It replaced the silly sci-fi weapons with realistic modern guns, and it also removed the crosshair and put a bounding box on mouse movement so that you'd move your weapon around a small area before the camera would move. This meant that you couldn't aim by simply centering the screen on an enemy.
It kept one rule: Bullets would go where the barrel of your weapon would point. So you still end up with unnatural precision, you just have fewer crutches to lean on.
I found it really fun. You would fire a round, watch where it hit, and adjust your aim accordingly. Eventually, you'd aim on intuition just based on where your weapon was pointing. Burst fire would send your aim all over the place due to recoil, so semi-automatic was the way to go for accuracy.

I chose the PC version over PS3 and Wii versions, as I always do with FPS.
Better graphics, better controls and much better online. It's a no brainer.
I can't see myself taking novelty (durr, hahah I'm swinging the controller like a sword! I'm Link!) over all of that. Not to mention the eventual DLC that will not be available on Wii and will take forevor to download on my PS3 >_>

You can call the motion controls a novelty all you want, but when it comes to IR pointing with your actual hand, you've gone mad.

No, I meant novelty as in the whole "it feels like I'm there" kinda thing. The pointer is accurate and a step forward for console controllers, but it has nothing over a mouse (which is where better graphics and online become deciding factors)

I believe you should remeber certain things. First I said this was about my reactions and choices not a sales pitch. If competition, scoring and trophies were any sort of priority with me, that would have had an impact on my choice. Personally I don't give a rat's patooty about playing competitively. I've won enough recognition in life I'm not out to stroke my ego, just to have fun.
To me this type of game has nothing to offer than the excitement of the experience. OkeyDokey can poke fun at me all she wants but basically yes, I'm aimiing my zapper and charging on like John Wayne in The Sands of Iwo Jima. One of the few benefits of growing old is you finally get over taking yourself so damn seriously that you can finally just play for fun, like you did when you were a child. I've got nothing to prove to anybody.
If online cutthroat competition is your thing, then choose accordingly.
In a different type of game, like a RTS, my criteria would be different because that is a manipulative not an immersive experience, at least to me.
And no, I'm not mixed up. Being big time into high resolution imaging doesn't mean that it runs my whole life. I just got through playing a nice round of Call of Duty ( or look at silly me acting like a soldier as OkeyDokey would call it) and opened up Photoshop and went back to putting the finising touches on a night shot of the Ravenel bridge that I'll be printing as a 44" x 58" print tommorow. You can call it confused if you wish. I call it balance.

Sorry, double post.
Thanks for the good discusssion. It was mostly free of console partisanship and actually got people to talk about what they like in a game experience which is, I think, the bottom line.
