Forums - Sony - So what's so great about Blu-ray?

The difference is like driving a Ferrari and a Civic.

If you can't see the difference, I don't know what to say.

What kind of TV do you have? What is your contrast ratio? Does your TV have 120 Hz? Are you running the movie at 1080p/24fps? Have you calibrated your TV correctly? Are you sure it is actually running at the correct resolution?

The Dark Knight is a strange example since it has parts that were shot with IMAX cameras (which look phenomenal) and shots with normal camers (look good, but not as good as the IMAX camera sections obviously). Some people find the shifts somewhat disjarring.

The movie is supposed to be in widescreen throughout most of the flim. IMDB has these aspect ratios for the film listed:

Aspect ratio
1.44 : 1 (IMAX version)
1.78:1 (IMAX)
2.35 : 1
2.4:1

You should expect to see black bars at the top and bottom in any of the 2.35:1 or 2.4:1 parts. A widescreen TV is only 1.78:1.

1)FYI I would wager most 1080p owners dont have 120 hz. On top of that a lot of 120 hz advertized tvs cant do 5:5 correctly

2) The fact that any movie would switch aspect ratios mid movie is mind numbingly retarted.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

I'm glad someone actually mentioned the aspect switching because I thought I noticed that happening but then I saw the bars again and thought I was just imagining things.

It all depends on what kind of upconverter your dvd player has. Honestly I bought into the whole Blu-ray omg is the greatest hype, and to be honest it isn't tons better. At one point I was thinking of selling my PS3 to get a wii and ds. Unfortunately the wife bought a few Blu-rays for me for Christmas so I doubt I will now ( she would be pissed ).

People can spout all they want to that you must be blind and or your retarded, that doesn't make it so.

properly set up the dark knight on blu-ray is absolutley miles ahead in terms of picture quality vs  standard DVD not so much the audio dif though as i use my tv speakers.

if you cant see a leap of any kind A. your tv is pretty low quality/not set up right B. your eyesight isn't too good.

Come on dude, how can you honestly make generalizations like that?  I bought my tv almost 2 years ago, it was mid to upper class tv "56 JVC 1080p" and there is not that big of a difference.  Yes it is set up right, no I am not blind, and no I do not remember if it is 120 hrtz or not and I don't intend to break out the instruction manual for you.  :P

My question is, should you be required to have a elite top of the line $4K TV to enjoy the REAL features of blu-ray now as well?  I would seriously think not.

Why dont you plug in your DVD player on to your HD TV, and watch the same movie on DVD.

=)

well cause all i hear is how amazing blu-ray is and i want to believe it

well i watch blurays in 1080i on a bravia 32"

i have a 5.1 audio system, but ive makeshifted it to 8.2

the difference in picture and sound is so good, that ive stopped buying dvd`s full stop, they are simply not as good and do not compare. on top of that bluray lets you access menu items without leaving the movie, its just great and is the best way to watch a movie.

lol i cant belive people claim they cant see difference(not anything to OP!) they sure as well saw a difference when hd-dvd was out, and now thats gone they sure as well see difference with digital download.................but for some reason they cant see the difference on bluray?

imo and everyone who i know who has seen bluray movies notice a clear difference.

i borrowed predetor on bluray off a friend, awsome film............i personally have the steel book predetor dvd the difinitive version remastered.................and im not joking it looks rank compared to the bluray rendition. ive also tried it upconverted and its still not a match, upconverting is just stretching the mage in a way, in NOW WAY WHAT SOEVER DOES IT GIVE IT MORE VISIBLE DETAIL.

hey and one last thing, with bluray`s your more likely to have a scratch free collection of movies

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

You can't tell the difference between a bluray and DVD? You're the first I've ever met.
