How does 132K first day translate into 160K first week??? It is perfoming better than ToS:DotNW and it could outsell Blue Dragon's lifetime sales (210K) in its first week. WKC has already outsold every 360 JRPG's first week sales, on its first day. Saying WKC isn't performing much different from the 360 JRPG's is a bit of understatement don't you think? |
ToS2: 120k | 150k
ToV: 70k | 107k
JRPGs sell the bulk of their LTD sales on the first day. If you expect 200k first week for WKC I think you'll be dissapointed.
Edit: Well it's not THAT much different from the 360 RPG's is it? It will probably sell somehwere in the 200k's.

This is a big budget, heavily advertised RPG. Comparing sales with a spin off on the wii and saying since its first day sales beat it that this is a success is crazy. This will not beat the takes sales by that much. Then, compare the budgets. To say this is an accomplishment is crazy.
Now Playing: The Witcher (PC)
Consoles Owned: NES, SNES, N64, PS1, PS2, Wii, Xbox 360, Game Boy, DS
LoL, can`t wait for 1st weeks sales.
This is just 1st day sales. =))
Anyway, this proves 1,5-2 mln. first week FFXIII sales in Japan. :)
p.s. i just don`t undesrtand, why WKC is still sold out on amazon in Japan...
http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/bestsellers/videogames/ref=pd_dp_ts_vg_1
i hope, they get more shipments tomorrow. :)
p.p.s. I wish, Sony would bundle WKC, like M$ did with BD, ES, ToV... =))
Then sales would be like 250-300k first week.))
Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...
2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.
1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.
PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

And I thought this was all about install base?
...360 diversion teknik*yawns*
isn't IU tLR budgeted and advertized too? :D

So...what you're saying is that:
A. Level-5 means nothing in Japan.
B. ToS2, a spinoff jrpg, actually has an advantage over a new Level-5 IP on a jrpg starved console?
C. Having 3 times the userbase is no advantage whatsoever?
Wrong.
Level 5 is huge in Japan, and their titles sell well.
I thought the Wii was a "casual" console. Are core jrpgs supposed to well well on it? Also...it's a spinoff. The flagship title was Vesperia and Tales fans know it.
Having larger userbase is a big advantage. Just look at how a big PS3 game sells compared to a big 360 game. Use MGS4. The userbase is closing, and now games on the PS3 are starting to match 360 games sales. Sony fans have used the userbase argument for 2 years, and it's valid.
WKS is a relative success if it can break 200k. Still, at 200k, it's really not that significant. No PS360 game has been yet, in Japan. Not on the world stage. That won't happen until FFXIII. WKS sold about as well as Vesperia, considering userbase, and that's being generous. Do you really expect anyone to drop their jaws over 200k sales?
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.
NO NO, NO NO NO.

IU and TLR have crap sales too. Those budgets are not sustainable. That's what the point is. RPGs on the wii would sell as well or better than the same ones on ps3/360 in japan and have a significantly lower budget.
ToS: DotNW had a significantly smaller budget than either WNC, IU or TLR. It will have similar sales. Maybe a little bit lower than WKC, and higher than the other two. Tales was advertised less and is considered a spinoff, which automatically means lower sales than the flagship series. So my question to you is: which one is considered the success? Which one made the most profit?

I'm pretty sure the only one that made a profit is tales, the other games were funded by MS or Sony, that's really the only reason they are exclusive and that companies can afford to do this. WKC still has a chance with good western sales but i'm gonna have to see it to believe it. PS3 hasn't proven this type of game will sell yet.

Outside of Professor Layton and Dragon Quest 8, no game has sold really well in Japan.
Rogue Galaxy did 350k in Japan, but both of the Dark Cloud games did worse as did Jeanne d'arc.
Dark Cloud 1 did, however, sell VERY well in the West.
