Why does 1 game make you lose confidence in an entire company? Nintendo has released 32 Wii games. You named the 1 game, that is part of probably their most casual directed series EVER. The only real competition to that is the "Brain Training" series.
So why did you buy it?
1. Research would make you find that it wasn't so different from the other titles.
2. It appears you didn't really like the previous titles a lot, as it being pretty equal made it a complete crap game.
3. If you watch TV, you would have seen that the advertisements do not have any men in them (only women). It being casual cannot shock you.
4. You played the previous series, but were still shocked by it being casual.
Okay, and to reply to some of the replies.
Nintendo has ALWAYS been casual. You can either call them loyal to their fans, and a company that changes their titles into what their majority wants, or you can call them stupid people who don't stick to their 15% market share.
You cannot make everyone happy. Nintendo tries this, and releases a few titles that are obviously directed at the classic-gamer crowd, but as those titles normally end in the 500-1500K range, that simply isn't as profitable as making games like Mario Kart Wii, which appeals to everyone.
Nintendo have always been casual, but they have also changed. They have changed because their customers have changed. They have followed the main userbase.
Another way to look at it.
In the 2D eras, an easy game would lead to a 3 hour long game. You couldn't make this, as nobody would pay 50 dollars for 3 hours.
If you made a hard game, people would die a lot, and the 3 hour long game would last for 15 hours. Definitely something you can pay for.
Still, I'm not certain the average consumer wouldn't have prefered longer, easier games (but that was impossible to make)
With the Ps1/N64, this changed. Games became longer, and easier. Nintendo games, however, stuck more to the "hard & short = equally long as Ps1", because the cartridge size was so small.
It continued, but accelerated even faster now, with the Ps2.
And believe it or not, the Ps3/X360 games are generally about as hard as the Ps2 games, if not even easier.
So the Wii has simply skipped a generation in the "making games easier" trend. Whether MS/ony will make their games easier next gen, is now hard to tell. One thing is certain though - if the Wii hadn't been here, that would have happened.
On another note, I feel that a lot of the complains about the Wii being casual are just stupid.
You can make almost all the Nintendo games exactly as hard as you want (as in, harder than it would seem at first glance).
Can you finish The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, without using your shield (letting it burn)?
Can you beat people in Mario Kart Wii, using the wheel only?
Can you beat Super Mario Galaxy, by having the Nunchuck in the right hand and Wiimote in the left (if you're right handed opposite way around otherwise).
And, then there's the simply hard games, which match (and normally beat) the difficulty of most the Ps360 games.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - hard game, cannot be doubted. Also lots of ways to make it harder.
Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn - arguably the hardest FE ever (and I've played FE4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10). Being the hardest FE ever says A LOT.
Wario Land: Shake it - semi old school difficulty.
Zack & Wiki - most people find it damn hard.
Batallion Wars 2 - Haven't played it myself, but Intelligent Systems made it - and they do not make easy things.
And the hard, but appealed to "casual" games.
Wii Fit - It doesn't get much harder than fysical achievements really.
Big Brain Academy - Maybe the closest thing you'll get to being as hard as fysical achievements.
Trauma Center - These are hard. Lots of small changes you can do to make them tougher.
Wii Sports - Sort of belongs here.
And in final, there's
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Paper Mario
Which aren't really hard games, and do not have a lot of ways to make them harder. Still, they have a decent difficulty.
