Wonder if you'll discover that the HD-DVD camp ends up with a better "attach ratio" in the long term. Guess its always going to end like this for a dedicated player.
PS - 300 (the movie) rocks. I have some minor quibbles with it, but its a solid 9/10 - and one of the best movies of its genre ever made. Sin City also rocks (and its probably better ;)

That's a terrible result. That's probably the worst ratio for HD-DVD yet. The install base is favoring blu-ray more every day, so I'm not sure how this is positive for HD-DVD. I agree, though, that 300 is awesome. |
Yet it's better than a ratio to DVD at the same respective time, so it's not as bad as you claim. Both formats are selling better than DVD in its first couple years. |
Getting beat 2 to 1 on the biggest release so far for both HD formats is really bad. You can't just say "well, it's good considering the install base" when HD-DVD people are claiming that because they have more HD-DVD players not counting PS3s that they will have more people buying movies.
Do you think the trend is suddenly going to change as the PS3 sells better than it has the last several months? Do you think the closing gap between the price of stand-alone HD-DVD players and Blu-ray players is suddenly going to help hd-dvd?
The install base favors blu-ray more every day. This movie proves it. I do not think there has been a release on both formats that showed that large of a ratio. 2 to 1, and all signs lately point in blu-ray's favor in the upcoming months.
