HD-DVD selling 35% of the units first week is actually a really excellent result. Considering that the "BluRay" install base must be significantly higher than the HD-DVD install base.

Wonder if you'll discover that the HD-DVD camp ends up with a better "attach ratio" in the long term. Guess its always going to end like this for a dedicated player.

PS - 300 (the movie) rocks. I have some minor quibbles with it, but its a solid 9/10 - and one of the best movies of its genre ever made. Sin City also rocks (and its probably better ;)

That's a terrible result. That's probably the worst ratio for HD-DVD yet. The install base is favoring blu-ray more every day, so I'm not sure how this is positive for HD-DVD.

I agree, though, that 300 is awesome.

Yet it's better than a ratio to DVD at the same respective time, so it's not as bad as you claim. Both formats are selling better than DVD in its first couple years.

One thing can save HD-DVD : PORN lol

Your ganna waste 30buks for porn? lol when you can get it off ares or limewire for free and burn it on to a dvd.

To all the guys talking about the grainy look.

It's in both the HD DVD and BR versions and it was intentionally done. It's an effect in the movie.

The Movie theater version was also done with this effect, but it's much easier to notice up close on a screen in front of you and apparently people think it's something negative...

It's actually an artistic choice from the makers of the movie.

Three things:

1. The siding of the American Porn Industry on the side of HD DVD have been greatly exaggerated.

2. The Japanese Porn Industry has preferred Blu Ray so far.

3. The sales of porn in the form of video are not what they used to be. People forget that the internet is used a lot more now in search of adult films, back in the day when porn decided the old format war, the internet was nowhere near what it is now. Most people get their porn online I'd assume by now.

Getting beat 2 to 1 on the biggest release so far for both HD formats is really bad.  You can't just say "well, it's good considering the install base" when HD-DVD people are claiming that because they have more HD-DVD players not counting PS3s that they will have more people buying movies.

Do you think the trend is suddenly going to change as the PS3 sells better than it has the last several months?  Do you think the closing gap between the price of stand-alone HD-DVD players and Blu-ray players is suddenly going to help hd-dvd?

The install base favors blu-ray more every day.  This movie proves it.  I do not think there has been a release on both formats that showed that large of a ratio.  2 to 1, and all signs lately point in blu-ray's favor in the upcoming months.

This winter should decide this war. Thier are going to be huge pushes for both formats. I think thier is no chance for HD-DVD because Sony and Disney will be pushing the Blu-Ray format. If HD over comes that it deserves to win, but I doubt it can do it.

I actually just saw the Blue Ray version 8 hours ago. Notes:

The Blue Ray version cost 29.99 Canadian. Same as a new DVD would at most stores. This is very important for Blue Ray to catch on. Higher quality for same cost? Sold. Which is good.

Video Quality: Umm, seemed about.... normal. Though the movie version wasn't fresh in my mind (January was a while ago), I didn't gasp and get an erection while watching it. Just was a movie to me, a bit clearer.

I still want to kill persians though. Here kitty kitty kitty.

This could be considered racist.

Wow 167k out of 1.7m BR owners bought 300 while 83k out of 450k HD owners bought 300.

Wanting to kill persian kittens would make me racist? Wow. I knew it was a tasteless joke, but I was unaware that the kittens had been declared a race. I figured it would be the cat lovers and furries that called me an asshole.

Wait, are you by chance a black woman blogging from Africa?
