Forums - Sony Discussion - 300 Becomes the Best Selling HD Movie Ever in Its First Week.

Today Warner Home Video (WHV) announced that it has the fastest and highest-selling high definition title in the market with the epic action-adventure, 300. Since July 31, 2007, 300 has sold more than 250,000 copies to consumers on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

The Blu Ray version outsold the HD DVD version 2 to 1 in its first week and I expect this ratio to only improve for Blu Ray in the future.

So far, the Blu-ray Disc version of 300 is outselling the HD DVD version, 65% to 35%. According to Home Media Research, that mirrors the overall sales pattern this year (Jan-June), with Blu-ray accounting for 67% and 33% for HD DVD.

According to these numbers then, the Blu Ray alone sold about 167,000 copies in its first week.

I was impressed at Casino Royale's numbers, but this is just amazing.

Good chance Spidy beats it.

Don't understand why this is even important. DVD > BluRay/HD DVD and it will be for at least 2 years.

It shows progress. We all know that DVD will dominate for years to come, but Hi-Def is showing it can become a standard.

And yes, I expect very strong sales for Spiderman 3.

To tell you the truth I actually almost bought the HDDVD version just because it was one of the ones that could do DVD and HD DVD.

I expect Spiderman and Pirates of the Carribean to beat it when they come out.

The more HiDef movie players out there, the more Hidef DVD sales. If Spiderman 3 beats out 300 in first week sales i'd be very impressed since it's going to be bluray exclusive.

I heard 300 was a bad HD movie, it was far to dark and really grainy for the extra costs, while the normal DVD copy performed just aswell in a upconverting DVD player. This was posted on the Sony forums.
