Action Adventure: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots.  YES! It beat GTA4! There's hope left for GameSpot!

Driving Game: Burnout Paradise. I don't see what else could have won, great choice.

Best Fighting Game: Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Nothing else in its league.

Best Platformer: Braid. Pretty good choice, should have been LBP.

Best Puzzle Game: Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I thought World of Goo would win, but this looks cool too.

Best Rhythm/Music Game: Rock Band 2. Aww. I thought they would give it to Patapon!

Best Role-Playing Game: Fallout 3. The obvious choice here.

Best Shooter: Left 4 Dead. It's a great game, to be sure, but Best Shooter? I would give it to Gears of War 2.

Best Sports Game: NHL 09. I suppose.

Best Strategy Game: Sins of a Solar Empire. PC remains the King of Strategy. Good to see.

Really good awards. The only ones I disagree with are Best Platformer and Best Shooter.

And I believe GTA4 is officially kicked out as a GoTY candidate. It's between MGS4 and Fallout 3 now, and I'm 95% sure MGS4 will win.

I fully agree with all of their choices, except I would have given MK the Driving Game award and World of Goo the puzzle game, WoG was more or less the top game out this year. LBP is a good game, but as a platformer it fails so miserably it's amazing I like the game so much given what a PoS its central mechanic is. Just means everything else is good about it though. Also, GREAT choice on L4D for best shooter, nothing really came even close to it this year.

They say the genre awards aren't about what game best embodies the genre, but what game they classify as being the best in a certain genre.

By the way, Dead Space was nominated for best Action Adventure. Isn't it a shooter?

i think rpg should have went to "lost odyssey", driving game to "mario kart wii", best shooter to "gears of war 2"

AS long as Mario Kart doesn't win. I really enjoyed Wipeout HD and Pure is great but I haven't played Burnout.

Just remembered Audiosurf came out this year. That should have won the Music genre, that game is fantastic and unique.

But a FF JRPG came out this year.  In fact, because of the massive graphic impovements and more acurate story, the best FF JRPG to ever reach the US and it failed to win the RPG award.  Of course, Fable II didn't win either so what do you know.

It's strange. This site has so much Fallout love, and yet so much Fallout hate.
