GRiD should have won best driving game. Burnout Paradise was different but to me != better. Burnout 3 is still the best Burnout game to me.

Rest of the picks are good I think. Glad RB2 won music game. WT was so disappointing.

As Far as Driving/Racing, I would think Pure and GriD were definatly potential winners.

and with fighting SCIVand MAYBE MKvsDC could have been contenders.

I haven't played any of these fully so I'm not saying I disagree with their choice, those were just off the top of my head possible contenders.

Personally as far as Brawl is concerned, I didn't think it was as good as Melee.

best platformer is braid ??!!! they didnt play LBP ? and best shooter is Left4Dead !!! ... what about gears & resistance 2 ? both of them take a score higher than Left4Dead.

Gears of War 2: 9.0
Resistance 2:  9.0
Left 4 Dead:  8.5 !!!

LBP is a HORRIBLE platformer, it's a great game but a HORRIBLE platformer. Also GoW and R2 failed when it came to the awesome 4 friends co-op of L4D. Myabe you jsut don't have friends to play with...

GameSpot's genre awards are often the most difficult to determine because they encompass all games that fit into a certain genre, across all platforms. Note that GameSpot's method of determining finalists and winners is not to give the award to the game that best represented the genre it belongs to, but rather, to the best game in that genre.

@NNN2004: Scores have nothing to do with it. Scores are decided by one, maybe two, people, the Game of The Year awards are decided by the entire team.

EDIT: In my opinion:

1) Gears of War 2

2) Left 4 Dead

3) Resistance 2

I have played all of them, all are great, but Gears 2 is significantly better than L4D. I don't know why it is missing from all of these Game of The Year awards- it wasn't even nominated for 360 GoTY or Overall GoTY.

No award for LittleBigPlanet or Patapon? Why do I even open threads about Gamespot?

If you consider LBP as a platformer, then it sucks horribily and there is asbolutely no reason why it should be selling what it is selling. If you consider it as a simple level-editor/commmunity game then it shines. Sadly I don't see a category up for that sort of game.
