Hard to say. Although the Wii is currently trending ahead of the PS2, the PS3's relative lack of success has helped the PS2 maintain strong sales well into the current generation. Furthermore, the PS3's lack of backwards compatibility has also contributed to the ongoing viability of the PS2.
There are simply too many variables for me to make such a prediction. Much of it depends on how the next generation pans out, which will determine the nature of the Wii's tail.
Yes anyone knows they will be 65+Million by end of 2009 and thats allready over half way there in half the time it took the PS2.
Will it slow down ? Look at it this way the X360 arcade is cheaper than the Wii over $100 cheaper here in AU. So to counter the X360 price cut guess what nintendo did NOTHING !!!!
Nintendo seem to own the next gen market , they dont seem to be so concerned in the Budget end or the or the ex PS2 sales so much.
Future and current X360 or PS3 price cuts have minimal impact on Nintendos market.
It will be even more obvious after the next X360 price cut or the PS3 price cut that nintendo sales are not going to slow any time soon.
On top of that Nintendo can regain the "budget market" any time they want their HW cost is lower so they can undercut MS or Sony easily if they wanted.

Only in Japan does the Wii not do better than the Ps2 did, everywhere else it does. If the wii stays on this pace then there is no doubt that the Wii will surpass it. [...] The only arguement against the Wii is that the competitors are much better this generation than those of the PS2, which could potentially take away sales. |
This hurdle is quite balanced by the new market Wii invented, so, in the end, Wii could easily achieve similar or slightly better results than PS2 in the same time span, but could do even better if the new market keeps on growing as now.

Aren't you tired of posting this? You know this won't happen.
| Will the Wii outsell PS2? |
Yes.
Formação do indíviduo, transformação da sociedade.
To be honest; i really don't care. To me it doesn't make any difference.

1. not sure how you can make comparison between the sale for Wii and the sale for DC. DC never took off after launch. 2. With the popularity of Wii, Nintendo probably won't release a new console until 2012 which would be 4 years later. I certainly don't expect Wii would start selling zero unit from the day the next Nintendo console is released. 3. how about swap GB/GBA with DS? Would it be possible then?

DS might outsell it, but GBA won't. Didin't you hear. Nintendo is already making succesor for the Wii. i lost the link so i can't show you the source. but just google: ''Wii succesor'' and you'll probably find out. Nintendo is not like Sony. Sony wants to take advantage of the console to the maximum, while Nintendo is always making new consoles. i don't know why. Nintendo would probably beat Sony if they had loneger lifespan consoles.

Yes i read but GB/GBA was closed down long ago so why compare an old console with a still living one? GB/GBA should be compared with PS1 or older cause it was created way long back, not around PS2 time. So ofcourse GB/GBA won't outsell it, it's dead and old and the successor has aldready lived for a couple of years.
Sony has only created 1 console that has gone dead so saying that that is what Sony do is wrong. Yes PS2 will likly have 10 year but PSP might not see 10 year support aqnd with the sales of PS3 it is questionable if it will.
Life plan is made from how successfull the machine is, as i said. Successfull console has had longe lifetime then the competition, allways.
Nintendo's GB/GBA had over 10 year support so why not with DS and Wii?
The shortes Nintendo machine is Gamecube, but as i said it is due to not being a success.
- And YES they are maybe making a new console right now. So is Sony cause rumours are allready out in that camp too (Using CELL again in PS4). But a new consoe will allways be released before the old is dead, same goes for PS2->PS3 and even shorter with PS3->PS4 (due to the limited success and pressure from the competition) and same goes for Wii -> Wii2?
So don't compare Wii with DreamCast. Don't compare PS2 with the long dead GB/GBA but with NDS instead (which will create higher sales in shorter time then PS2).
Predictions for 2009:
360: 39-42 PS3: 31-34 Wii: 67-70
Future projection
Wii will hit 100 million before christmas 2010 (made december 2008)
NDS Family will have sold and shipped more then PS2 at the end of 2009 (made january 2009)
