It looked like the ps3 was going to take it in 2008 because of the 40gb release..
we were not expecting a $199 XBOX 360.
That even got me to cave .
Anyhow, sometime in 2010! LOLZ

2011/2012
unless ppl keep buying xbox360 everytime it RROD's
i think by next year developers will be seriously frustrated by DVD-DL limitations.
I've always felt that the PS3 and the xbox will end up within 10 million of each other. I've never really felt certain which one would end up on top, and I've found it to be rather unimportant as well. Both consoles do pretty much the same thing, and with the amount of awesome multiplatform games out there, whether the PS3 or the Xbox ends up on top will be of little consequence to any gamer.

this is also not likely to happen now.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.

This, but PS3 definitely has 2011 won in terms of software as of right now, and let's face it 360 doesn't have much left to reveal except maybe new IPs, we'll see how that affects hardware sales.
I predict 360 sales bump dies down and PS3 is on top again by January, then 360 is on top for a week or two around Gears 3 launch, and after that PS3 continues to outsell 360 throughout 2011, then PS3 closes in on 360 in late 2011 and slowly passes it by early 2012. IMO
