Forums - Nintendo - It's time for third parties to make Wii their lead platform

Things arn't changing Bobbuffalo. It's a lie in order to prevent the Wii from gaining better 3rd party product. Isn't that obvious to everyone?

Dpes anyone wonder how on earth such a ridiculous explanation, that of the casual/hardcore split, could be cridible for every single bloody journalist in all forms of media?
Its because the more often the words are used, like for eg. WMD's and Iraq, the more people believe it.

Well I meant that things are changing not in the audience sense but the companies' attitudes. Normally they wouldn't think twice in jumping to the winner machine but they are very hesitant and in some sense wishing that the wii fails.

Tell this all to the developers of the wii version of cod 5

'Kay.

Let's give up on HD games altogether.

Keep hoping...maybe throw in a prayer while youre at it. The control scheme is the main obstacle why Wii will have a hard time becoming the main platform.

Seems to be a lot of misunderstanding on this topic. N'gai isn't suggesting a Wii exclusive. He's suggesting pretty much all games be designed to run on Wii (and low-end PC's) and then upgraded to the HD consoles. So all games will release on all consoles and have A) higher sales B) Much larger installed base on both consoles and PCs

WoW is the poster child for this. Why do you think it's so huge? Because everyone can run it on their PCs is one prime reason. Game developers are just plan stupid when it comes to PCs. The vast majority of people are not willing to sell out $3000 for a high-end PC for the sake of playing a couple games when a $400 PC will run every application they could ever need or a $800 laptop. I personally have given up on PC gaming because the hardware costs have gotten ludicris and unjustifiable.

Now a game doesn't need to look as bad as WoW does. Orange Box will run on my laptop but still looks great on high-end PCs/consoles. Why they didn't port to Wii is beyond me. If my laptop can run it I guarantee a Wii could.

186,028,912 + 96,514,492 = 282,543,404>212,824,148 Software
x360 PS3 HD WII

While the HD systems continue to sell more sw, is better for third parties to put a ps360 multiplat instead of a wii only AAA game of the same quality as fallout3.

There's also the fact that
wii Ps3 X360
1 36,55 5,04 8,6
2 17,78 3,81 6,72
3 11,85 3,7 6,38
4 11,19 3,63 5,56
5 7,69 3,35 4,21
6 7,49 3,09 4,19
7 6,16 2,45 3,68
8 5,77 2,18 3,2
9 4,96 1,71 2,69
10 3,62 1,68 2,61
total 113,06 30,64 47,84
% 0,53 0,31 0,26

on that matrix I got the ten best selling games in each console and you sum them up, you get that more than 50% of the wii software was concentrated in 10 titles. That doesn't look good in the eyes of the third parties as they have less chances of getting big numbers out of the games.

If you compare the million sellers in each system, the x360 has the most with 50+, the wii is way behind with 32 and Ps3 is aproaching it with 20 titles. That doesn't look so bad. But if count the two HD systems together, with the multipalts added, then you get way more million sellers than wii.

So after all this numbers showing how the HD consoles sell more games than wii(together, considering that they have roughly the same demographics as opposed to wii blue occean), numbers provide by this site, btw, why would 3 parties abandon the current aproach in favor to wii only games that sell less?

Having the Wii as the lead platform for multi-platform titles would likely make things even worse for third-parties. Imagine if the Call of Duty games lead platform was the Wii. Not only would sales very likely be dismal for the Wii version of the game they'd also likely suffer on the 360, PS3, and PC as well. The same can be said with EA Sports games and many other efforts since the audiences really are different (with minor overlap) for Wii, 360/PS3, and PC.

Also I find it interesting that N'Gai mentions Left 4 Dead and HalfLife 2: The Orange Box as shrewd considering they already are at the level of the majority of 360 and PS3 games.

I really think the current problem is because of the installed base of the 360 and PS3 which will only improve in the coming months/years. Also much of the cost has been in developing costly engines and other technology which once out of the way makes game development cheaper. It seems to me that the situation will improve in the next few years.

yeah....make the Wii the lead platform.....let's see how scaled back every big release then becomes...

Nintendo tried having the best technology once before. The N64 wasn't as successful as the PS1. Deal with it, this is what happens and MS had to bite the bullet last gen too because of this law. So did Nintendo but they had a system only marginally better than the PS2.

In time SD will be acceptable again. And that whole bullshit thing about everyone has 2 systems is not true at all. I don't and im happy to be patient and wait for Nintendo to become the new standard.

Are you serious? Do you actually beleave this?

Do you watch DivX movies?NO

Do you ever watch tv or video on a mobile phone or mp4 player? HELL NO

Do you play old games on pc or on virtual play on PS3/360/wii? Once in a while

Do you play games on handheld? NO

Well don't talk shit if you got a semblance of integrity or self reflective honesty.

Get a clue.  SD is in its death phase.  you are aware that the next Wii will be HD.  Even the Wii with decade old tech knows SD is not ever going to be the standard again.

I really want to see the wii get the support it deserve, However it hasn't fared well against the HD systems when it comes to big Multi platform games.

The wii will sell more than the 360/ps3 but It will the never match the PS2 in terms of software dominance.
