Screw Sega for putting it on the Xbox, that was the one system I didn't own last gen -_-

Jet Grind Radio was THE game for cel shading, it's the first one I played, actually... looking at Wiki now,

"The first 3D video game to feature true real-time cel-shading was Jet Grind Radio (2000) for the Sega Dreamcast." Awesome, I get bragging rights now

Torillian - Because everything else got a massive boost far exceeding LBP?

I mean, LBP could, and should get a boost come December. Problem is, that boost may get it to 250-300k for December. That'd put LBP at a very sad total for the EOY, and well under 1m sold through in the US.

That also means that VGC overtracked Valkyria by quite a large sum, and VC sold less than what ToV did in one week in August...For the US.

I guess the Playstation 3 really can't sell JRPGs. Even less so than the X360.

NPD is only tracking LBP at 356k in the US, which is about 27% lower then VG. If VG tracked Others 27% too high also, that would put LBP still under a million world wide. It still might not break a million world wide by then end of the year.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

I don't think it's fair to compare a new IP SRPG to the latest entry in the Tales series by Team Symphonia.

This, i agree 100% VC is a new series theres no way you can compare it to a tales title, of course you can compare it to IU since its a New IP and since there both exclusive to each of the respective consoles even more so.

Probably? All you have is some titles that you think sold more than a million without any evidence for it?

Because we don´t have others sales and VGC sales data are not always that accurate, especially with genres like SRPGs.

@Kas: Never played the original Tactics Ogre, but the N64 one (which Matsuno wasn´t involved) wasn´t good. Could be Tactics Ogre is even better than FFT, from all the good things I´ve heard. But all Matsuno games are 10/10, FFT is one of them.

Thats Ogre Battle.

Same franchise world.... totally different gamestyles.

Tactics Ogre is basically Final Fantasy Tactics.  The artstyle, gameplay, battle system, map, interface screens even a lot of aspects of the story (though more complex and making more sense....)

basicallty everying from FFT that wasn't the Job system was taken from Tactics Ogre.

He literally took Tactics Ogre... made it more casual, slapped a different job system in, threw in Chocobos and called if FFT.

Disagaea didn't do any better, and it's a much more well-known SRPG series.

Abyss sold 100,000 total copies in the US on PS2, so it's not like Vesperia had a solid prescident before it thanks to Abyss.

And I have mixed feelings about it being fair: Playstation 3 fans argued the same thing(s) against Blue Dragon (which sold 50,000 in it's debut week according to NPD), Eternal Sonata (which sold about the same), and Lost Odyssey (which sold about 5 times that of VC).

SRPGs are a niche genre, but I thought the PS3 was supposed to move RPGs regardless since....You know? The Playstation 2 had so many? Wasn't that the crux of the JRPG argument? The Playstation 3 had the userbase, since PS2 fans lapped up theh JRPGs, while the Xbox had approximately 0 JRPGs (maybe you can count Sukedi).

But now, we see that VC, Disagaea and ES on PS3 have all bombed just as bad as a few X360 JRPGs...So I guess we're back at square one: Neither the X360 or PS3 can move JRPGs. However, the X360 at least had some better successes with BD, LO and ToV.

I think you should wait until either the PS3 gets a JRPG that's not a year old port or FFXIII outsells the 360 version 3 to 1 before you make such claims :)

QFT. Seriously people, why do you insist on this desperate crusade against the PS3? The PS3 has recieved no blockbuster JRPG this gen yet, the only thing it has gotten are SRPG, late port and Japan only released game that no one has ever heard of.

If WKC perform just as poorly as the above title, then you all have every right to be descend like a pack of jackals, because its a blockbuster release with high anticipation and if it bombs it DOES prove something.

Until then, comments like 'I guess the Playstation 3 really can't sell JRPGs' have no valid legs to stand on.

Yet we have a wii srpg, a good one that sells well. We also see that the wii tales has sold more than the 360 version. Wii is going to be the rpg console this gen after the dq announcement. Where goes dq, goes the rpgs. Look how the ds turned out after the annoucement.

Yeah, well, the Wii can sell JRPGs. And it WILL be the JRPG console. Not sure how many people can deny that now. But I thought this was about PS3 JRPGs vs. 360 JRPGs :P

@Bolded Rich text- In my Personal Opinion, no, no it wont be.

But if it does, Quality of JRPG's over Quantity any day of VII Days.

On topic, ... O RLY!?..... ...

Stickball is going to get pwned when FFXIII sells better on the PS3. Then we can put the nail in the coffin of the "PS3 can't sell JRPGs" argument. lol.

Anyhoo, LBP does 1 mil in 5 weeks. Hardly horrible. Mirror's Edge/Dead space haven't even came close to that, and that's on double the consoles. It could have easily ended up like that.

Oh, and do you all forget Uncharted?

My goodness.

Define what kind of numbers you expect FFXIII to pull.  If it doesn't pull like 3 million in Japan alone it's going to be a huge disapointment.

Of course this is why it should sell more on the PS3 as well.  Becauase FF13 should be expected to sell AT LEAST 3 million in Japan.

If it doesn't pull near 8 million across both platforms with 3 million in japan it'd probably support the "these consoles don't sell JRPGs arguement'

As ridiculious as something like 7 million sales sounding inadequate are.

I mean... it should go something like this

Japan 3-3.5 Million

USA - 2.5-3.5 million

Others 2-3 Million

With PS3 getting all that 3-3.5 million... the 360 would need to take nearly all Europe and US Sales... or expand the Final Fantasy base.

So i'm guessing stickball is betting on FF13's japanese sales to be much lower... more in the 2 million range.  Which would prove disasterous.

And why is that? We already have a good srpg in Fire Emblem that sold over 500k with ust US and Japan numbers, in fact it was almost 600k. We have dragon quest coming to the console, the game which many rpg developers, especially the small ones, follow. Wii has largest userbase, which includes many hardcore JRPG fans. Hell look at a SPIN OFF tales game on the wii, which has outsold ToV! A SPIN OFF! So, what proof is there that JRPGS will sell better on ps3, what proof is there that they sell better on 360, what proof is there that anything other than wii is the JRPG console of the future?

Anyways, on FFXIII, I don't think it will sell as much as SE wants it to sell (this is different from current expectations). Even if PS3 sells more than the Xbox version, its the wii that will be laughing when it gets the next one because SE wants to make a profit off it.

PS3 will have only have 3.5m consoles sold when it is released. No way it will pull that kind of attach ratio.
