I think they're going to stay very close until the holiday season. Then it'll quickly move one way or the other.

Soon, unless demand for the wii sudenly falls off in America. I could maybe see that happening soon in Japan, as it's already approaching GC levels there, but it has a long ways to catch up to GC levels in America.

In a couple of months PS3 may have a hope with the holidays, but I suspect the 360 price drop will hurt the PS3 more than the Wii...

I think the original poster has a valid question, and there is little doubt that those with an abnormal loyalty to one console. Would look to such an event as a major indicator for argument purposes. Were the Wii actually able to generate more sales in one market then the competitor can do in the world wide market. Well that would be a very bad sign for the PS3 console. There is also very little chance that it would not become a major statistic in the console wars.

So the original poster asks for no flame wars. The war would happen if this were said or not. However since the original poster said it if you do choose to flame around in this thread. Well that just shows to everyone what kind of person you really are.

Were we just calculating in Japan and America the answer would be obvious that the Wii would pass the PS3 in around four weeks time, or the beginning of September. However the numbers from Europe and other regions actually bring the numbers closer with a margin of just a few thousand units. Even so the PS3 is losing ground in America and in Japan even though it is rather slow.

We need to know three factors to make a prediction in this case. How many units can Nintendo push to the market in America every week from this point. How much will PS3 sales slide. How will the 360 price cut effect the situation. Speculation on my part makes me feel that the price drop will cause sales to go away from the PS3.

I would venture a guess of seven weeks. With the Halo 3 hype driving down PS3 sales. So I would say the third week of September. Far too early for a holiday rush to prevent the trend from winning. However a couple months later the PS3 will likely bolster enough sales to close that statistic down for a couple years.

That allows for a margin of just over twelve thousand units per week. That is easily reached with increased production of the Wii, sagging sales of the PS3, and stronger competition from Microsoft. So it is plausible.

Since the PS3 world sales are now beating US Wii sales, I don't see this happening unless Wii sales go up and PS3 sales go down a good amount.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

It depends. Japanese sales for PS3 should drop back to 10-13k soon, but the question is what will happen with PS3 sales in US. If it keeps in the 30k, then the Wii will pass it but very slowly. It would gain about 15-20k per week. Maybe extra shipment for Strikers and MP3 may do the trick.

As soon as the bigger titles are coming to the PS3 from next month, I highly doubt that will happen and to be honest... I hope that it won't happen.

I don't think we are going to see that happen. PS3 has a good stable of games coming especially in US and Europe, so I think it will hold its ground and start to pull away. As I have said in another form, this should be the start of the PS3 moving in right behind the Wii in sales. By next March I think the PS3 will start out selling the Wii in America and Europe, and mabye even Japan, but that depends on how well MGS4 goes over their.

Last week the Wii sold approximately 95,000 in North America whilst the PS3 sold 110,000 worldwide ...

The PS3 will likely sell less in the comming weeks because the boost from HSG will disapear and the price drop and bundling in Europe will have less of an impact; this week the PS3 will be close to 90,000 and the following weeks it will drop to 85,000 or less.

Thank you dodece, see i did have a point

I think it will happen, but just because America will get increased shipment of Wii this month. But it won't last long (holiday season, maybe price drop (Europe??)). And honestly i don't want to.

The best things for gamers is that finally we have some competition in the market. Don't think a big big (like Sony was last generation) leader is good for the industry. And is definitely not got for the gamers. In Germany there is a saying "Konkurenz belebt das Geschäft". ( Competition is vitalizing the business ).

I really hope, neither Sony nor Microsoft get crushed this generation.
