Forums - General Discussion - Did/do your parent/guardian not let you play certain games?

They used to, but I wrote an essay on why I should be allowed to play M games, they allowed me, but I don't play them.

Nope, I can play pretty much anything I want. My parents believe that I know what games I shouldn't play.

This resulted in over 67% of the games I own on my Wii are rated 3+ or 7+

The only 2 games I feel that they might not have liked me buying is RE4 and The Godfather: Blackhand edition.

As it ended up with that, I found RE4 scary as hell, and only played it when my mom/dad was there, as they really liked playing /watching me play the game.  (my friends found it too scary too!), and both my dad and my dad played Godfather more than I did.

So I've had no restrictions whatsoever really, but I would have bought the exact same games if they had had them.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

No. I remember killing and cursing in GTA: SA in front of my mother when I was about 14.

Do you have something to tell us?

No I never got regulated on what I could/could not play. Music on the other hand, was a different story. I had to take a Korn CD back when I was in 6th grade.

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

Never ever... Almost every PS game that I used to play was rated M :P

Vote the Mayor for Mayor!

My parents didn't have a clue. They just felt like I played too much. I'd throw away a whole day on my Nes. Now, my mom plays Tetris Attack for hours everyday. Her Snes controller broke, and she was miserable until I bought another. Only now, does she understand.....

But, no. My life was uncensored.

This isn't games but when I was 7 I was bored so my mum let me watch CliffHanger (S Stallone film - rated 18). Contrary to some parents in this world (looking at those who would ban GTA for example) it did not turn me into a foul mouthed terrorist.

When I was a kid, there weren't really any "bad" games per se. I mean, the PSone was coming out when I graduated high school... When I was young enough to be called a "kid" death in video game was Mario jumping on the head of a koopa troopa.

Now that I have kids, I pretty much let them play what they want within reason.

My 7 year old can't play the GTA series... too much sexual stuff and too vulgar. Plus I am old enough to know that if I heist a car in real life, I will go to prison, and my oldest son is too young to understand that.

He does however play the Halo, COD, and RainbowSix series...

Halo is killing aliens, there are no such things as aliens, so who cares?

And R6 & COD is war, which is reality. The objects of the games are to hunt down terrorists & the enemies of freedom. There's nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

I guess a lot has changed though since I was a kid his age.

Back then we left our windows open at night, our doors unlocked, buckling up your kids was optional... heck you could hold an infant in the front seat unbuckled back then and the worst thing that would happen would be getting an odd look from a passing driver. You could smoke in retail stores (at any age, and the police wouldn't say anything). I could go into a gas station and buy my grandfather cigarettes... all I had to do was tell them they were for him and that was good enough.

So games have really evolved to from the simple innocence they used to be just the same.
