When I was a kid, there weren't really any "bad" games per se. I mean, the PSone was coming out when I graduated high school... When I was young enough to be called a "kid" death in video game was Mario jumping on the head of a koopa troopa.

Now that I have kids, I pretty much let them play what they want within reason.

My 7 year old can't play the GTA series... too much sexual stuff and too vulgar. Plus I am old enough to know that if I heist a car in real life, I will go to prison, and my oldest son is too young to understand that.

He does however play the Halo, COD, and RainbowSix series...

Halo is killing aliens, there are no such things as aliens, so who cares?

And R6 & COD is war, which is reality. The objects of the games are to hunt down terrorists & the enemies of freedom. There's nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

I guess a lot has changed though since I was a kid his age.

Back then we left our windows open at night, our doors unlocked, buckling up your kids was optional... heck you could hold an infant in the front seat unbuckled back then and the worst thing that would happen would be getting an odd look from a passing driver. You could smoke in retail stores (at any age, and the police wouldn't say anything). I could go into a gas station and buy my grandfather cigarettes... all I had to do was tell them they were for him and that was good enough.

So games have really evolved to from the simple innocence they used to be just the same.
