Doubt the ps3, as much as you want ounce that $399.99 price tag is here we will be seeing who is in the lead.

are you forgetting that once the ps3 gets to $399.99 the wii  could be at $150 or even $100.

THEN we will see who is in the lead!

Some sony fanboys seem to think that only the ps3 is gonna go down in price.

You expect the Wii to be 100 dollars by next year's holidays? There is no way Nintendo is going to drop the price on a console selling this much for a long time. PS3 will have another price drop sometime next year and it will probably be another 100 dollars off.

I don't expect a Wii price cut to below 200 dollars till 2009, unless demand significantly slows down.

I guess Sony is the only company who can do price cuts now.

If they sold the PS3 for $1 and gained the lead in the console numbers race would that count as a victory?

At what level does a price drop become utter desperation and seen as laughable?

Their three options are idiotic.

Best option is to hold their ground and keep a few huge 3rd exclusives like MGS FF L.A. Noir at all cost and when the time comes launch those WMD named GranTurismo FinalFantasy MetalGearSolid Killzone.

So you suggest the path of greatest floppage

They are whoopin 360s ass world wide, yep floopage.

Still millions behind though, at the current sales rate it will take a long time for PS3 to catch up

That would be true. But your not counting xmas, evey xmas Ps3 will sale 2/3 million more then the 360 WW!

Unless you believe Japan and Europe will somehow embrace the 360 something they are clearly not doing right now.

I doubt that the PS3 will outsell the 360 so heavily this Christmas, software and price will still hurt it too much for that to happen.

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Sony doesn't need to change the hardware or even their price. They need to change how they do business. They have a model that requires them to be the market leader to have profit, they can shift to niche marketing and development resources to change to a model where profit is more per unit. (Like Nintendo during N64 and GCN generations, who still made profit)

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Well thats a double edgedsword them. Your saying no way Wii drops in price while its selling insane like this, but the guys argument is that the PS3 will catch the Wii. The Wii cannot keep selling insane if the PS3 wants to catch it. Even if the PS3 starts to sell insane as well, all that happens in that situation is the divide remains constant rather than growing month to month. Something has to give.

I will be happy the day sony goes bankrupt

Send me a message if you want to be Wii friends.

I don't want that, but I do want them to burn a bit more and learn that they can't go hog wild on their hardware if they want people to buy it.

As much as I enjoyed the PS2, I still didn't budge on it until it hit the $200 price point, and even then it was a gift. I have every intention of doing the same with the PS3, if it manages to get enough games that I want, that is. :)

Edit : Spelling.

Miyamoto: OH no the ps3 is starting to sell like crazy!!

I have an idea!! Lets not make millions of dollars and start loosing money by cuting the price of the wii to $149.99!!!!

I want Sony to lose this generation. I do not want them to leave the console industry, and by no means do I want them to bankrupt.

Why do I want them to lose this generation?

To get them to wake up. I'm still mad at how they marketed the launch of the PS3. It was an insult to the integrity of gamers everywhere how they assumed that we would blindly buy their product on brand loyalty alone, even if, at their own admission, there was nothing worth buying (or even buyable).

The PS2 was the greatest console this industry has seen since the NES, I don't think anyone can really argue that point. The Wii has paved the way to becoming the next big thing, and the PS3 is, largely, a joke right now.

If Sony collects themselves and realizes their error, they can dust themselves off and go back to how they operated this past decade. The decade that made "PlayStation" a bigger household name than "Nintendo". (Remember back in the day? When people were calling all video games "Nintendos"? The last ten years, they were called "PlayStations".)

PS3: 5.51m/51w, avg 108,039/w (up 239)
360: 12.93m/102w, avg 126,764/w (up 625), leads PS3 by 7.42m (up 70k), avg lead 18,725/w (up 386)
Wii: 13.52m/51w, avg 265,098/w (dn 1,102), leads PS3 by 8.01m (up 90k), avg lead 157,059/w (dn 1,341)

If 360 sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass 360 by...
01/08: (008w) +875.8%, 04/08: (021w) +344.4%, 07/08: (034w) +219.3%, 10/08: (047w) +163.5%

If Wii sales stabilize, PS3 sales increases needed to pass Wii by...
01/08: (008w) +1072.%, 04/08: (021w) +498.4%, 07/08: (034w) +363.4%, 10/08: (047w) +303.1%
01/09: (060w) +269.0%, 04/09: (073w) +246.9%, 07/09: (085w) +232.6%, 10/09: (099w) +220.3%
If PS2 sales freeze, Wii sales increases needed to pass PS2 (as of Mar07, 108.4m) by...
2008: (008w) +4373.8%, 2009: (060w) +0496.5%, 2010: (112w) +0219.6%, 2011: (165w) +0116.9%

At +0% it will pass it in 358w, the week ending September 19th, 2014, at an age of 409w (7y44w).
Current age of PS2: 7y37w.

I wouldnt say the ps3 is a joke, but in terms of World wide sales compared to the wii it is. To date nintendo is still the biggest household name atleast in my neck of the world(to parents)
