3) People who like large numbers of games and have more games to play then time in the days.

I'm just talking about the idea of judging a game on 3 weeks of sales.

Oh yeah, i agree with that.

Seems like it's more of a "It needs to prove it will have legs" type game rather then a "It needs to prove it doesn't have legs" type game though.

  • LBP was the most advertised game this year on the PS3
  • It was/is bundled in Japan with a controller
  • It was/is bundled in Europe with a console
  • Sackboy should be the face of the PS3 (Sony said so)
  • LBP was the highlight of the PS3 Xmas-Lineup (Sony said so)

Now it is selling something like 100k / week with all the bundles and it hasn't made it to 1million units yet. LBP would be dead and gone without the bundles. It would be like 500k sales till today and selling around 40k / week without the bundles. So IMO this game is a flop. 800k is decent but nowhere near expectations. I guess it isn't even profitable. A "regular" game needs to sell 500k to break even. All this marketing I have seen in Germany alone must be expensive. Same for continental Europe, UK and NA. I could imagine, the developing costs weren't that low either. And there is an online service that costs some Dollars. So I can't see this game being a moneymaker.

I am not judging the quality of this game. I haven't played it and it is not my type of game.

I agree, but that's pretty hypocritical on your part considering you've went "lol Nintendo fans always say [X game] will have legs but it won't" for games like Madden, SW: FU, CoD5...

Good thing this thread isn't about my hypocrisy, but about the OPs.

About the cost of the game, I am quoting from OPM:

we made the game for $2-3m when most games are being made for $20-30m, the team is only 20 people, so they game has already made money

I said "Sony fanboys" in the title because only fanboys predicted those unreal and impossible numbers.

Sony fans and people who actually make logic predictions didn't predict the sales that most "fanboys" predicted.

This game was suposed to be the biggest seller this holiday seasons according to a lot of people in this site. Heck, some guys even said that the Sackboy would be the new Mario and that this game was going to be the reason of the PS3 sales rise. And I'm not lying... you just need to read the previous threads here in this site.

I don't even think that the Sacboy character would be popular enough to be the Sony mascot.

I seriously doubt that, my friend. Low quality is usually shovelware, 2-3 mil on shovelware development? nah!

There are also people that said the Wii would sell 750 million units.  And that Wii Fit would outsell the whole GTA franchise (sixty or so million), and things to that matter.  But no one brings up stupid predictions by stupid people, because it's stupid.

If you listen to the rational predictions and people, you will see that LBP is on track to meet expectations easily. 

If we made threads for all the outlandish predictions on this site, the forum would be full of threads like this that don't make too much sense.  We all know that stupid people will make stupid predictions, but we don't make threads about them because it is stupid to do that.
