Just one more thing to note:

This resolution will never be a standard. It is basically the 720p of the next generation in HD. The next standard is set for 7680 x 4320. That means 4320p, and it is not even close to happening. Last I saw it is about 25 to 30 years out.

This is also just one possible future in digital entertainment. There is a large chance that we will view TV in a completly differant way 30 years from now. I think resolution will be a very small part. Holograms should be very possible buy 2038.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

They were on two different displays.  One was projected at 3840 x 2160 on a 220 inch screen at a normal frame rate and one was displayed on a 19 inch screen at 240 FPS.

Yeah, I think it would actually take 16 PS3s to run it at 2160P and 240fps at the same time.

Awesome, polyphony are some real tech nerds

How can you possibly misspell QWERTY? It's spelled correctly on the damn keyboard.

@Naslodecoy, the 240 fps is not useless, that type of thinking is quite harmful, just because it goes against you perception of what works and what doesn't,doesn't mean it doesn't work, it clearly had an effect on the audience, so the human eye clearly can perceive this difference.

To put it in perspective,most scientists before the airplane had all sorts of mathematical equations and theories, proving without a doubt that heavier than air flight is impossible, even though birds were proving them wrong. So I would refrain from spouting such ignorant views, just because you don't understand how it works, doesn't mean it doesn't work.

That too is almost overkill.  Unless the technology is cheap enough, there's almost no reason for that high of a resolution.  I suppose that's why it wouldn't be available for 25 to 30 years.  I mean 720P and 1080P is not dicernable on a 50 inch screen from 10 feet away from viewing distance charts I've seen.

@WessleWoogle
I'm sorry did someone invent a star trek like analyzer and I didn't know about it?
Human medicine is still in the middle ages at it's core, we barely understand how anything in the body works, and most of our great accomplishments so far in this field have been out of accidents and  empiric observations, so unless someone has completely decoded how the human eye, and most importantly, how the human brain works in relation with the eye, then you should think again, and talk to an actual specialist before you make such statement, even then it will probably be someone who only ever read 20 year old books on the subject and  who refuses to listen to anything new.

Ignorant?  I do believe I mentioned that I still think it is quite impressive.  The article is basically a press release, so I wouldn't trust these reactions from the audience.

The thing is, these exercises are not practicle for any of today's consumers.  Yes, the human eye interrepts brightness/motion/color at different rates (I think), but they had to build a god knows how much display at 19" to display 240 FPS.  Something that is completely nominal at best.  However, it's still impressive.

Can I be impressed by a technology and still proclaim it uselss?  Yes.  It's like if I had boobs on my chest.  I'd be rather impressed.  Of course, they'd also be impracticle.

So now we know what the PS4 will be like!!!! In 10 yrs it will be so cheap sony will be selling them in bundles of 4 networked together! :P

And games will be so huge we'll have to use 4 blueray discs at the same time! omgwtfbbq
