Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Another sickeningly sweet Wii story

hey Stof, thanks so much for sharing.  Often on the internet people put up such fake/tough personas that it's so great to see someone put their guard down and post something that truly means a lot to them.  My uncle, who was one of the greatest people I have ever know, recently died of brain cancer and it was very hard on our whole family.  I can't even imagine what strength it takes to go through this with your own father.  Honestly, you and your mom sound like very strong people.  Thanks so much for sharing your story.

Gaming to me has always been more of a social thing, a means to an end.  The end for me is to connect with people so I primarily stick to party games.  The Wii was made to exploit an opening in the market, a purely business decision, but I still love how personal an experience it can become.  My brother is disabled and has been playing video games his whole life, but harder games frustrate him so it's so fun to play something like Wii Sports where we are basically on a level playing field and we can both enjoy it.  I hope that you can take this positive experience and look back on it when times get tough.  I wish you all the best, you sound like you deserve it.

that was such a beautiful story, you went and made me get all teary eyed. lol

It's really nice to see a topic like this where people are being real, and it's nice to take a break from the flame wars. lol

Again, thanks for sharing your story, and if you ever need to talk about anything I'm sure those who have posted would love to listen, including me.

Sorry to hear about your father but that's good that you're going to remember him smiling at the end. I had to watch my papa starve himself to death because of stomach cancer and I would have given anything to have something that we could do together like that.

I don't know what to say really... I'm sorry for you! Best of wishes to you and your family. And sharish those moments of fun!

Words can´t express how I feel for you and your family, it´s good to see a family stick together in bad times.

I know this sounds stupid in a anonymous forum but eventhough we never met I fell great empathy for many of you here, we share common interests and experiences, whatever hurts you will hurt me as well,  it is nice to see someone sharing not only his joy but also his pain.

Thank you for sharing stof

Im quite angry that you shared your life with us. It's not  something i expected/wanted from this thread at all, but what can i say other than that this is so awesome. You actually get to play the wii with your family and dad when he is nearing his end, you may not think this, but you are very lucky.

I mean, at first i thought yours was truly a sad and daunting story, scaring me away from death and making me feel sorry for you. But soon i come to realize, most people don't have that when thier loved ones are nearing thier end. Most people are too sickened by death and are horridly morbid at the fact and eventually causing more grief than need be.

I hope you aren't in anguish, or saddened (to a certain extent) because you have so much. instead i hope you are happy that you could do that, when others aren't/weren't/won't be blessed with such an opportunity. Anyways, i was angry because i realized that i could not do what you did, telling your story across the internet to anonymous minds across the earth. And i probably would break down in torment and anguish. But that's a weak way to think about life. If you can get through these times without completely breaking down (help of Nintendo or not) than you have an awesome life experience that you can share to all people, those less fortunate than you and more.

thank you for sharing stof...
my prayers go out to your family also.

Difficult to know what to say after reading your story but I send you, your father and the rest of your family my very best wishes.

Thanks for sharing the story. It reminded me of my dad who once played Mario Bros. with me around 1984. It's one of the happiest moments for me that I can recall. Hope you and your family will have wonderful memories.
