Ps2 won because it sold the most, period. Whatever suits had to say on this is irrelevant. We aren't discussing whatever this guy said or what other guy said. We are discussing ioi's numbers - don't forget that.

The current trend (for the past 10 weeks) has been the 360 outselling the ps3 and now the gap is half a million bigger than it was when the ps3 launched. That's not cherrypicking, that's the state of things.

Yes yes, it´s fun to speculate who will wind up being the number 1 HD system by the end of this gen, but in the end, it´s mostly useless.

This generation, so different from previous ones, has shown us most developers see both the PS3 and the 360 as a single platform...most of them don´t see them as "PS3 and 360", they see them as "PS360".

That being said, and as anyone who follows the industry knows, most big 3rd party titles are on PS360, regardless of the position these systems have at the moment.

In the end, it looks like the 360 claims the U.S and the UK, the PS3 claims continental Europe and Asia, but it doesn´t matter, they´re mostly viewed as a single platform.

In a nutshell, they´re perhaps the strongest 2nd and 3rd place systems the industry has seen, when it comes to 3rd party support (well, maybe not, if you include the Genesis).

Anyway, whether you choose a PS3 or a 360, overall you´re well served in quality 3rd party support.

Wouldn't it be more correct to compare current XB360 lead with the one it had when PS3 completed launch and started selling WW? Wasn't it more than 7 million then?

No--it was 5.5 million, and it's currently 5.8 million.  Yes, the lead grew since then and then shrank some more, but the fact remains that 360's lead now is still greater than it was at PS3's launch.

Did you look at the graph you linked to?  The 360 started with a lead of approximately 5.36 million, and it's currently at about 5.8 million.

this is MS last great hoilday season so I, sad to say will win hoilday '08 cuz of the price, but after this hoilday season what else does MS have that hasn't been played by them? all I can think is price and that is it, all of MS system selling games are now out and I dont know of any other great games that can sell systems that MS has in dev. If any some one tell me? Sony will be third this hoilday cuz of price but if the price falls to $350 or $300 next Feburary/March then sony has it for the rest of this generation and with the extreme help from FFXIII and GT5. I dont know about before then next Xbox comes out but in the end when both are done selling PS3 will have sold more.

When PS3 started selling in EU too lead was > 7 million, it's quite obvious XB360 lead kept on growing strong when PS3 was still selling only in half of its total market.

Well next fall they have Halo 3:Recon, which will sell at least 5 million units.  Beyond that we don't know what 360 has, but it would be foolish to underestimate them at this point.  They have essentially overcome the RROD disaster and are kicking back into gear against an arguably more powerful and complete platform in PS3.  I refuse to say they are going to role over.  MS has too much invested.
