The biggest issue is that VGChartz puts its corrections out there -- while most people don't see what changes NPD makes.

Also, NPD has no Toys R Us or Wal-Mart data from this generation ... so it is using estimates only on the two big fish.

Is VGC 100% accurate -- of course not. But people act as if NPD is -- when it is not (compare actuals to predicted by analysts if you don't believe it).

And if people don't believe you can make a giant statement based upon a small sample, they missed the fact that a properly done survey of 1000 people could predict how 100M plus were going to vote in the recent US Presidential elections (and also that one of those with the more questionable results was done by GfK).

 no, its actually a good source of information probably the best single source of videogame busines news around and even has more news than some of the actual websites floating around for professionals within the gaming industry, with the only caveat, and its only more of an annoyance than anything else,  that you have to sort through and figure out whether the article you are reading is somebody's opinated kind of editorial, a piece on some rumor or another, or some decent news.  N4g basically only does news, so their forum people trying to boast about how great their news is really unnecessary as vgchartz is more of a numbers oriented website that ALSO does news.

 The realization that is escaping this debate is that vgchartz really just has to copy the NPD's numbers and change them up a bit, and later adjust them.  Over the long term, we will have the best source of numbers anyway, so it's a no-brainer that the numbers will be just fine.  Not trying to take a side either way, but this criticism is just incorrect.

NeoGAF was the original anti-VGChartz site, pretty much. It's all just sour grapes; they're jealous that people trust VGChartz more than them.
