Forums - Nintendo - Sega: Wii Is "The Most Expensive Board Game On Earth"

Well, depending on what games they're coming up with next, I'll be pledging my support for Sega. From what noname2200 posted of the original article, they're actually inspired to bring more alternatives to Wii than the casual fare every one else is developing! Huzzah! :D

The BuShA owns all!

Ah ha ha, so this is now a "quality third party" discussion? Please. This is a discussion of software in general, not "Software minus Nintendo software. Also games like Carnival Games. Also no Mario and Sonic." Don't move the goalposts. The question is: "Does the Wii sell software?" The answer is yes, it sells quite a bit, which suggests people aren't letting their Wiis collect dust. If people weren't using their Wiis, why are they buying so much software for it?

VGC reaches the same conclusion that the FRs do: the Wii's attach rate is better than the PS3's.

The number of factors involved if we consider all the games the Wii sells is too much, take for example the huge "extened userbase" the Wii has. ATM, I can't be bothered to discuss it. See you at attach ratios at the end of '09. Comparing the two then would be much more fair.

Translation: I got busted, I don´t have any proof or anything to backup my statement, the VG numbers are against me, I can´t spin my argument anymore, I give up :P

Further translation: Take any recent multiplat and see VGC numbers. Who sold more? yup. The further translation even goes into stopping to try and speak for me.

And Bodhesatva, different type of software was my intention from the beginning. The PS3, for the most part, doesn't have equivalents for Wii software save for multiplats. On which platform have multiplats sold better? that was my comparison.

I´m not trying to speak for you, I´m trying to figure out why you can´t post any proof and you leave the argument, you can´t just cherry pick: "any recent multiplat" and try to make valid your point, SW sales are bigger on the Wii, thats a fact, cherrypicking any multiplat is plain sad, because you are leaving exclusives for both systems, maybe there is a ton of shovelware on the wii, but it sells, and thats a fact...

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

I'm surprised that people are speaking ill of the Wii when Animal crossing is only a little over a week away, once that comes out there will be a lot of people that will be engrossed in that game for months.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I think this discussion has moved too far off base -- let me help refocus it.

Please do not let this devolve in to list wars. No arguments along the lines of, "The Wii doesn't sell software if you don't include Wii Fit / Wii Play / Mario Party / Mario Kart" or any such nonsense. Do not try to argue that the Wii does not sell software, because we have way too much evidence (VGChartz and Financial Reports) that shows beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Wii does indeed sell software.

What you CAN argue, however, is that the Wii sells a different type of software. This is a more defensible position. If people want to say that the style of game that sells on Wii is different than the style of game that sells on the PS3/360, that's definitely arguable.

What next will you tell us when we can and can't log on ?  regardless of wether the argument is good or not it's still some one's opinion , dictating what points people can argue in a debate just kills the thrill of it.

On Topic : Yes the guys at Kotaku are idiots and they get views by posting unsubstantiated crap all day.

Leave it to Kotaku to post half a quote and twist it to seem anti-Wii.

Whenever this kind of augement comes up, its always the same. People against the Wii say the software it sells is Wii Play/Sports. About a year ago, the arguement was 'Wii games dont sell'. Now its changed. People need to stop including/excluding whatever they want simply because they dont like it. Sure, im 100% positive that about 90% of Wii Plays sales are because of the free Wii mote. Is that a bad thing? No, it just means that Nintendo knows how to sell things. And look at it this way, if people are buying WiiPlay for the Wiimote, that means they plan on useing the Wiimote, meaning they use it for games, directly contradicting another anti-ii statement.

I'd have to agree with sega. which is why i dont own a wii. i would like to play games not board games. no offence to wii owners.

SW: TFU sales are bigger on the Wii? according to VGC Wii is at 0.63m and PS3 is 0.75m. Just check.

The "different type of software" argument also stands. Not to mention huge difference in userbase tastes.

Sega didn't say wii has board games, they are saying wii usage for families is like....you know what nevermind.

Can anyone say "cherry picking"?

If you read the whole quote, you can see the paragraph that was featured was taken out of context. Read in full, it really rings true. Why else would Sega be working on M-rated games for this "kiddie machine."

Kotaku anti-Wii bias confirmed.
