Very bad news for HD-DVD and the apparent price drop.

Well Woolworths is HUGE in UK & I really don't see how HD-DVD is gonna get out of this one

Blu-Ray I think is now proved to be the dominant format of the two

Now about the DVD domination

Supporter of

 SONY & Nintendo

Consoles owned - SNES, N64, PS, GC, PS2, PSP, PS3

 I DO NOT support Xbox

My prediction for YEARS END:

WII - 18.3 Million

Xbox 360 - 15 Million

Playstation 3 - 8.5 Million

The only fighting chance HD-DVD would've had was if Microsoft had included it in the 360, thusly jacking its price up to obscene levels.

Sony brand is still strong in consumers eyes, just simply expensive at the moment. I know people who keep saying, "Once it's *insert price of your liking here* I'll get one" and they mean it. Hell, I mean it, too.

DVD is here to stay though. The jump from VHS to DVD was huge. No more rewinding. No degrading of picture over time. Less physical space taken up. Menus, scene selections, extras, cut scenes, commentary. Playable on Computers and laptops with DVD drives.

The jump from DVD to High-Def formats is ..... visual/audio boost and ... a price boost (not to mention equipment needed to take advantage of said boost). Eh?

I see why the adoption rate is so low for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD.

Good news for me =)

@dolla, I do agree that DVD is here to stay... for now, but eventually you will have to search far and wide to find a non HDTV, you already have to fight with the clerks to buy one... understand I am talking about 6-10 yrs from now.

Target ISN'T going Blu-Ray exclusive. Please check the following links:

Target didn't previously carry HD players, and now they will carry a Sony
player, after Sony agreed to pay them some money. But it isn't a exclusive
agreement (check the links)

Walmart will probably follow soon as well.....

The thing of it is though, is that the BD hasn't really reached acceptance yet, and it won't until we can get a $180 or $250 BD player to the consumer. But, things look like they are progressing well so far =)

Oh. It didn't have HD DVD or Blu-Ray...and now it will get Blu-Ray?

That's different. I thought it was shutting out HD-DVD, taking it off the shelves, etc. This is a bit different...because it means Blu-Ray is getting on the shelves by the companies, not because of consumer demand...

Go DVD!

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

DVD sales according to Neilson Vision a few months ago is starting to flatline because of HD-DVD and Blu-ray sale.

I dont think it will at all, the dvd format is stealing everything from the blu-ray format, sort of how the ps2 is stealing sales from the ps3. Generally as long as dvd outsells blu-ray it wont be accepted.

Exactly.  This stuff is pretty interesting to me.  Apparantly, Sony is trying to win through better relationships with reatailers, rather than the old advertising and price drop approach which will work, but sometimes using a little creativity can work better i suppose.

I just hope that sony doesn't try to get TOO creative, with their corporate knuckleheads deciding to sacrifice more dead goats or whatever for BD promotion
