Forums - Gaming - Opinion: the 1990´s were far better when it comes to pure fun in gaming.

Do you agree or disagree?

In my opinion, the 90´s completely destroy today´s games when it comes to pure fun in games.

From 1990 to 1999 we saw:

-Super Mario World
-Super Mario 64
-Zelda a Link to the Past
-Zelda Ocarina of Time
-Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64
-F-Zero
-StarFox and StarFox 64
-Super Metroid
-Donkey Kong Country
-Super Mario RPG
-Street Fighter 2
-Sonic 1 and 2
-Streets of Rage
-Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8
-Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
-Xenogears
-Metal Gear Solid
-Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3
-Castlevania 4, Castlevania Symphony of the Night
-Contra 3
-Godeneye 007
-Banjo Kazooie

And so many others gems.

23 of those games were on the SNES or N64

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

It is because there was more of a multiplayer aspect to games. Now we are separated but somehow brought together with online capabilities.

Word of mouth was much more important and people communicated more about games. There was less fanboyism and TV had better programming (Nickelodeon in the 90s was infallible).

Chea cash-ins have unfortunately taken over a larger part of the industry and some people have left companies since the 1990s.

You were either younger or your standards were a lot lower. Or both.

You also forget a lot of NES games of the 90's like SMB 3, Mega Man III-IV-V-VI, Ninja Gaiden II-III, Dragon Warrior II-III-IV, Castlevania III, Duck Tales 2, Chip 'n Dale 2, etc...

I agree. I think the 90s was the Renaissance of gaming. I don't think this decade has been as great as the previous. Same goes for music. the 00s have sucked for music.

You can find me on facebook as Markus Van Rijn, if you friend me just mention you're from VGchartz and who you are here.

I don't know. A lot of times nostalgia can really skew our views on old games. I think this is especially true for PS1/N64 game.

It took me a long time to realize it, but Zelda:OoT is nowhere near as good a game as Wind Waker or Twilight Princess.

3D gaming of the 90's sucked. It really did, with the exception of a few simple games like Starfox. 2D gaming however, hit it's peak in the 90's. Platformers, and often RPGs, were better in two dimensions, in my opinion.

Someone has become jaded.

i cant agree... if mario 3 had made it in there it might have been a tipping point, but i have had more fun in the 0s ... also i will always hate mario 64, that game came very close to killing mario forever for me, FF7, and goldeneye opened me up to new types of gameplay that outpaced platofrmers for the rest of my life... though im still heavy in to sim/stratagy games

Uhh, the 90s sucked for music as well. I have nothing against Rap, but it and Pop effectively destroyed all variety in music. As for games, it doesn't help that they now cost more to make than the average movie.
