I think ioi may have typo'd the 6.5 number, either that or he knows something we don't =P

But the 6.5M aren't the least likely thing in his post. The Ps3 could outsell the 360 by 1M this holiday. What's odd is this

That says that the Ps3 needs to sell double of 360 weekly in 09. As the Ps3 needs to win by 6.5M (or lower, if it is a typo), the 360 should just sell 6.5M in 09, which is not going to happen.

I'm guessing it is more than a typo, and that he just wasn't paying attention to what he wrote.

360's lead is not unsurmountable, but it's daunting, given the trend this year. Look at this past qtr, where the focus is on how PS3 outsold the 360...eventhough 360 has a price cut, PS3 had MGS4, so I think things are in a holding pattern untill we see how the holiday season plays out. I think M$ strategy was for the price cut was the holiday season, not some near-term boost, so starting on Black Friday, we will be able to determine how potent the mixture of price cuts and games are for 360.

If you suppose ps3 outsell xbox360 40k every week from now on and just do a little circulation(the distance between them now is 5.57million),it will take 2.7 years for that to happen. By the way,xbox360 is still outselling ps3 every week now and this is likely the situation till early next year, so my prediction is late 2011.

I think it will eventually happen , but no earlier then 2010, the gap is to big at the moment, and with recent Price-Cuts Xbox have recovered, and it should have a big holiday season because the price will matter.

ps3 should go past the 360 by the end of 2009. the main reason is the price cut, whcih sony will do in 2009 probably in all 3 territories which = HUGE SALES!

but after the price cuts for ps3 it wont be 40k anymore, it will be 150k a week.

so many price cuts and being cheaper than the wii/psp wasn't in consideration before.
