I just don't see as many story-driven games on the PC as there have been on Playstation consoles over the last few years. The few story-based PC games tend to be mmorpg which aren't usually story-based games at all but just series of quests set in a world that don't tell stories in the form of a typical plot triangle with a beginning, middle, and end or shooters with stories tacked on. Things were different in the golden age of PC gaming when the most popular games were being made by the likes of LucasArts Adventure Game Studios, Sierra-On-Line with Roberta Williams, and the Lowes, and Infocom with all of its awesome text based games. But stories like those just don't seem to show up these days in PC games and when they do they don't usually have th budgets of games like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy.

The Witcher says hi. The only reason you flame the PC, Xbox 360, and Wii, is because you're in love with the PS3.

Lemme tell you something bro. IGN isn't the final word in "good/bad" games. It's ignorant to believe the PC has no story driven games, and that .1 point in IGN makes one game absolutely better than the other. I know I'm all over the place with this post, but you are frusterating as hell sometimes Paul. If you're gonna be posting around here a lot more often, then you and I need to get a few things straight.

Instead of JRPGs we get RTSes which are just as story driven as your JRPG. You even get to have some control over your units in those. The Witcher was a great RPG, won 2007 RPG of the year in many publications. Sam&Max episodes have been tickling in, it is the very definition of story driven. I can keep listing until you give ground to be honest.

"The Cell is just a buzz word for 'hard to use processor that isn't anywhere nearly as powerful as we promised.'"

Yeah, and the way that Microsoft came up with the name xbox 360 was that someone was flipping through a lot of comic books and they noticed that after animals got killed by falling rocks, their eyes would have "X"s in them, so they said, you know our system is going to break a lot during its first couple of years on the market, so why don't we call it the "X" box?

Funny thing is that now that they might be on the verge of finally fixing the rrod problem, reports are starting to circulate that certain problems with Live servers are causing a lot of people's achievements to be erased, so I guess now the Live servers are going to be carrying on the proud heritage of the "X" Box line.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

Don't try to hide the PS3's problems by poiting out another console's problems. But if you wanna play like that fine. WTF is up with LBP's servers? SPORE servers for the PC haven't had any major problems and tehey are currently holding over 43 million creations (there's a counter on the website) and they basically have the exact same system of community distribution.

"WTF is up with LBP's servers?"

PS3 servers don't have any problems because Sony doesn't ask anyone to pay $50.00 a year to use them. But when you're paying $50.00 a year to have a company's servers erase your achievements that is pretty funny stuff right there.

Haven't addressed why the Great SONY can't even compare to EA in terms of servers. I've seen better MMORPG launches than LBP, and that's saying a lot. Yet again you are masking your problem by pointing out another platform's problems, can't you defend the PS3 without having to do so?

The PC and PS3 aren't easily comparable, one runs Vista and the other a far more optimised embedded OS, one will be optimised for to the bone the other will not.

You are correct that the full potential of the Cell processor hasn't been shown yet (by game engines). IMO that's not a surprise when dealing with radically new innovative hardware. For example early Atari ST (which was good compared to mono color soundless Macs and PCs of the time) to Amiga 500 ports ran better on the Atari ST, small enhancements started to pop up in the coming years though, after 2 years the first few eye opener games started to appear:

However it took until around 6 years to see the Amiga 500's gaming potential fully realized. Personally I expect a similar timespan with regard to the PS3 / Cell processor, like I stated a year before the PS3's launch. If we talk about other advantages (vs the 360) like Blu-Ray disc and default harddrive they should show much quicker (and already have, like Uncharted and MGS4).

I think the PS3 will be viewed as a cutting edge gaming system for a long time due to this growth. It also potentially paves the way for a Cell based PS4, which should thus be much easier to adapt to for PS3 developers.

Since the days of the Amiga, NeoGeo and later the BeBox we have said heavy multi-processing will be the future. Due to the success of the x86 IBM PC, this delayed progress for a decade but now it's being realized.

Naughty Dog: "At Naughty Dog, we're pretty sure we should be able to see leaps between games on the PS3 that are even bigger than they were on the PS2."

There have been developers entirely devoted to the cell processor for nearly 4 years and it hasn't really broken away from the performance of the XBox 360 or a 3 year old PC. Its about time that you admit that the Cell is not a magical, law of physics breaking, processor and it is very similar in performace to the other processors. Certainly, there will be improvements over time as developers work with it, but it isn't a cutting edge gaming system anymore and it never will be again.

I agree. The PS3 is never gonna be competitive with the PC in graphics, textures...or anything really. Any quad-core and most dual core processors are far more functional than The Cell, and I'm sure that even with The Cell, the PS3 is limited by some sort of onboard graphics processor.

You can't really believe that someday PS3 games are gonna look as good as PC games could, do you? I mean, it's old technology. Minor improvements, sure, but as good as modern PCs?

The Cell processor is not a magical chip that somehow breaks the laws of physics ...

It is similar in performance to other CPUs that were released at a similar point in time at a similar manufacturing cost. The architecture of the Cell gives it different advantages and disadvantages but it doesn't mean that the CPU is more powerful, only more powerful at some things. Being that the Cell processor is designed for asynchronous processing and the algorithms involved in gaming are not currently very asynchronous, the Cell processor does not offer many advantages when it comes to videogames ...
